For the party search NICHOLS. 19 November, 1845 In Elyria,on the 2d inst. by Rev. Grosvenor, Mr. Bird B. Chapman and Elizabeth J. NICHOLS. 17 August 1853 At Medina, on the 9th. inst. by Rev. F.H. This is not for any of my own research but had a bit of misc. to share with someone researching this exact line. Per the LC Infirmary record books, a Mrs. Farr of Elyria and her sons George age 4 and Frank age 3, were admitted to the LC Infirmary on July 18, 1874 for a day. Misc. info notes: shiftless & deserted. Ray & Barbara Aston wrote: > > Lowell (Son of Lowell & Phoebe FARR) & Sarah Jane (SQUIRE) FARR had a son named > George A. A very kind & genteel subscriber notified me of a mistake I made recently. I had posted on this list that a Harriet Jane Fisher was the wife of Jared Fisher. It appears that I posted the wrong given name for Harriet's husband. The post should have read that Harriet Jane Fisher, wife of a Issac Fisher, who went to WI. The real Mrs. Jared Thompson, was Mary Sisson, never left the Grafton area. Not having researched this line, I do not know how Issac is related, if at all, to Jared and Joseph Thompson of Grafton Twp. -- Nancy M. Just want to make a correction that appeared about an hour ago on this site. Harriet Jane FISHER was the wife of Addison Isaac THOMPSON. They married 1842 in Lorain Co. OH. Would appreciate any contacts from anyone on the above lines. Hi Al, Thanks for the e-mail. It has been said in my family, that there was a connection to the Holcombs and Nichols but I have not been able to find one. The Holcomb name is very big around LaGrange where my Nichols come from and are still living there. It has been stated that my grandmother "flatly denied it" but sounds alittle fishy to me ; ) I do not have any Holcombs in the Lorain area for you to search but appreciate the offer. Ruth You wouldn't know of a Cyntha {Gibbs} COOK b. about 1809, in VT and may have come to Lorain and Cuyahoga county area about 1835 or so? I am trying to figure out who her husband was; know she was living with her sister [a widow and my ggg.grandmother, Lucy Gibbs PIERCE] at the 1850 census in Huntington twp, Lorain Co. I don't know if she married in VT or OH. Hi Russell, My great grandfather, Jeremiah Dague's first wife was Lucy Cole. I don't remember her date of birth, but Jeremiah was born in 1855. Lucy died soon after her second child was born and both Lucy and that second child are buried in Penfield Cemetery. We (descendants of Jeremiah's second wife, Christie Archer) still keep in touch with descendants of Lucy's first child, Earl Dague. Sharon, whenever I see the name Leimbach in Lorain Co., I wonder if they are from the same family as the priest, Father Leimbach, who served at St. Joseph's Church in Amherst in the 1950s. I don't remember his first name, but do you know if there was a priest in your Leimbach family during that time period? Perhaps not, because Lapp is often an Anabaptist/Amish name. Do you know if Thomas had a daughter Marjorie? My aunt was Marjorie BANNON, b. 1926, md. James SHORT. She was from Elyria, then they lived in Amherst. I am searching for descendants of the following families, I have quite a bit on most of them and am more than willing to share: SAGE WOLCOTT TILLOTSON FISHER (not FISCHER) WHITNEY MORSE RHODES SQUIRES CASE BRIGGS KELSEY WILCOX YALE BECKLEY BOICE PEET NEEDHAM RICE MUNSON BARKER LAKE LABORIE PRESTON HOWARD COOK COLE WILLIAMS SHEPARD SMITH CALKINS BAIRD LOUNSBURY HARDY FARMER WARREN CURTIS BABCOCK and several others.
Greetings Mona, I regret to say that I am not aware of any connection to your Mennell or Nichols lines. I have little information on the Holcomb line. My g-g-g-grandmother Amanda Holcomb was born in Ohio abt. 1814. She married William Engle in Lorain County in 1834. She later died in 1889. I am not sure of her parents or siblings. Supposedly, her father was Timothy Holcomb and her mother Betsy Hatch. If you have a Holcomb name, I will try to research it to the Lorain County area. Let me know. My step-father worked there at the same time around 1927 and I do have a picture of Mrs. Schroeder with my mother taken at the Thew Shovel Plant in Lorain. I'm not researching Schroeders but thought if you are this might interest you. I also have a picture with Mrs. Schroeder, my mother and some other ladies including her daughter, Ruth taken at a house in Lorain. Tom Powell in New Hampshire
Hi Everyone: Just returned from wonderful fall trip to the New England states. While I was gone, there was a call from the Amherst, Ohio Historical Soc.. Now I am in a quandry.... Earlier this year, someone asked me to go there and take some digital photos of a picture on the wall there. I do remember that they wanted the photo for use at a 200 years family reunion this summer. I did take the photoand sent it off to them with the information that I had ordered a book on the "History of Amherst". It is in and now I cannot remember who the person was that wanted this book. I do remember telling them it was $11.00..... Have it now and would love to hear from whomever it was that wanted the copy. Not to worry if you no longer want is, as I have had several family requests for the extra copy I have, but want to offer it to the right person first. Sorry for the "senior moment" and Sue, I know they turn into "senior minutes" if you don't watch out! Peg
I am researching the families of George and Katherine LEIMBACH LAPP and John and Sophia LAPP LEIMBACH who were living in Brownhwlm Twp. Lorain Co. in the 1870 census. I think John b. 1841, and Katherine b. 1837, may have been sister/brother. I believe their father may have been Zacharias LEIMBACH who arrived in this country in 1863 with George and Katherine Lapp and was probably the same "Zach" living with John and Sophia Leimbach in the 1870 census. There appears to be some confusion between this Zacharias and J. Zacharias Leimbach who also lived in Brownhelm Twp but died in 1858/59. Sharon in Pa. swansha@velocity.net
