Sorry Nancy! I'm near the Lorain City Health Deptment on 14th Street. Kim
Kim, It was not clear to some out of towners as to which health department you are near. The Lorain City Health Dept. in the city of Lorain or is it the Lorain County Health Dept. in Carlisle Township on Murray Ridge Rd.? Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH
Hi Marcia, I live just a few blocks from the Lorain Health Dept. I could get certificates for you. Just cover the cost. Email me privately if you like: kslone@erienet.net Kim
Please remind me what birth certificates are available at the Lorain County Health Department . . . what period of time is covered? AND, are there list members who might be available to look up a number of birth certificates for me. Your help is much appreciated. Thank you. Marcia Boggs Connersville IN
HI All, I just wanted to let everyone know that the price for a plain birth/death certificate at the Lorain City Health Department is now $1.00 each. If you need a certified copy they charge $11.00 each. These prices are as of October of this year. I found this out when I went in today to get some copies.... Jane (Spurlock) Hoholski
Good afternoon, Looking for additional information on David A. Children: Rosabelle and Charles A. Thank you for the time and consideration. Jim Laird,Fl.
I am just beginning my foray into Ohio, and hope that this request meets with your requirements. I am new to this list and wonder if anyone can point me in the direction of newspapers/obituaries from several time periods, and where I might be able to review or request a lookup for them. I am looking for 1900, 1912, 1941, 1944, 1945, 1961, 1975. The residences would have been in Amherst, Avon, and Elyira. All of the people I am looking into are burried in Crown Hill, and I have the computer printout of the graves that is listed on the Web. Thank you in advance for your help. James D. LC Listers, Please remember to vote tomorrow. We voted two weeks ago, taking advantage of the privilege of early voting if you are 62 and older. We will avoid the crowd & those last minute parking lot political campaigners. I remember so very well the very first time I could vote. It was a serious & meaningful moment for me. My grandmother couldn't vote in her early adult years but finally her day came when women did get to vote. Think about how our cities or township governments would be running if women were not able to be involved in the voting process and in todays political and banking matters. This week, am stocking up on those ingredients needed to prepare the annual Thanksgiving meal. I enjoy preparing all the old fashioned dishes from scratch so that the younger adults will know taste difference and perhaps cherish some family recipes & memories. I do cheat a little by the fact that some things I am able to prepare 2-3 days in advance and freeze. On that holiday, we use no plastic or paperware. We enjoy having ALL generations come together. This year, our tables will include: 3 people in their 80's, 2 in their 70's, 1 in the 60's (that's me), 2 in the 50's, 2-4 in the 40's, 2 in 30's, 5 in 20's; 1 teen & 4 children aged 7 years and under. Yes, we have a big house, & three ovens. Our Grandmothers used to do it in a really big way. Last week I emailed the complete menu along with an RSVP invitation to family members. Grandma couldn't do that, could she? Everyone knows that they are expected to swap & listen to family history stories too before, during and after the meal. BTW, our own tradition always includes inviting a couple of unrelated people that have no family or anyone to have a Thanksgiving meal with. So the above list includes of sisters that are 87 & 83 years old. They will also have a "meal on wheels" to take with them when they leave. Think we Americans will now be more appreciative of family get-togethers because of September 11th. Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH
I, too, would like to have a copy of the Amherst history book if my family is included. My family, the Reinhardts, moved there in the 1880's Barbara Shirley-Scott shirsco@gtcom.net.----- Original Message ----- From: <Almenami@aol.com> To: <OHLORAIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 03, 2001 10:29 PM Subject: [OHLORAIN] Amherst History Book > Is there a way to get a copy of the Amherst History Book? I too would love to get a copy of this book if it is available. Thanks, Sharon
This is for Patricia Maher of Paw Paw. Do you have a Robert Maher, who had a sister named Suzanne, and parents were Leonard and Marian (Nordstrand) Maher? I know this is just a shot in the dark, but if so, please e-mail me. Bob BobNMi@aol.com
Well, my interest in genealogy is paying off. I am flying off on Thursday to visit a 4th distant cousin who lives in London. Returning to SD on Dec. 7. I'll probably freeze my bunns off but am looking forward to the adventure & my first trip to Europe -- including a cruise on the Rhine.. If anyone on the list is researching the surnames PORTER, REGISTER, LAWES, BAGLEY, or MAXWORTHY we are probably related thru these same grandparents, William PORTER and Mary-Larman REGISTER, who arrived in Medina County in 1851 Shirley ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! Penny, Your Aunt Fannie did not scare me a bit. While I was rereading the data you send about her, the scenario set off a lot of familiar bells. Please email me privately as to future research. Very interesting! -- Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH
Hi Nancy, Did I scare you off about Fannie Boyer??? Pennola
Hello, The girls in your photo are wearing uniforms with United States Navy insignia patches on the left sleeve on some of the uniforms<----U.S.Navy also, they may have been WAVES-(Women Appointed got Volunteer Emergency Service). The girl in the front row, (middle) as well as the one in the top row, (2nd one in from right side) have United States Navy Second Class Petty Officer. This is an Enlisted Seaman, not an Officer. A 2nd Class Petty Officer is considered an E-5 in the Enlisted ranks. I can't tell their "jobs" due to the fact that I can't clearly see the emblem located under the eagle (top of patch) and above the chevrons (v-shaped on bottom of patch). As it is, I may be incorrect on the "class" of Petty Officer (hard to tell in the photo posted), 1-chevron = 3rd Class, 2-chevrons = 2nd Class, 3-chevrons = 1st Class Petty Officer (no, these aren't backwards) If you can blow up the scan I can help you further.
