    3. Anna, Promise you that your Grandpa's WW1 veteran's grave will be marked & will try to remember my camera. I really needed to pass this exact kind of favor along, as there was a young man in his 20's, who drove out on his Harley "Hog" to my own grandmother's country side cemetery grave in WI for me last year. -- Nancy M. 1. [OHLORAIN] Oberlin College Library
    2. Lola Angell
    3. I am interested in knowing if anyone goes to this library and would be interested in looking up something for me and getting information on how I might get copies. I don't know if this is an actual book or just typewritten pages. "The Genealogy of the Descendants of Timothy & Priscilla Gibson" by Laurence Gibson. It is my understanding that Laurence Gibson donated his papers titled as above to the Oberlin College Library, Mudd Learning Center. What I really want are the family pages, but would be delighted if I could get copies of the whole thing. If someone is willing to do this, I will need to know the cost per page, how many pages and an address to write to them if is available. Timothy Gibson was my GGG Grandfather. Thanks so much Lola

    3. Nancy, You are just wonderful, plain and simple. Thank you. I will be watching for the chance to pass this sort of favor along to someone else as well, when it arises. I know we all benefit from helping each other, so I will keep the cycle going. 1. [OHLORAIN] Crown Hill Veteran's grave
    2. NM Meyers
    3. Anna, Without a name, no one can locate the name of your veteran or put something on the site. Your message came thru on Sat. at 9:30 AM, as many of the local genealogists are readying for the FF/LC banquet & induction ceremony being held tonight in Wellington. Do you know approx. where in Crown Hill he is buried and what sort of marker to look for? Crown Hill is not a small cemetery. I would be willing take one of my geraniums over there after church tomorrow AM.- Nancy M. 1. Re: [OHLORAIN] Crown Hill Veteran's grave
    2. Anna Hanson
    3. Thanks Nancy, It's for Herman A. Short, b. 1896, d. 1957; his grave is on the north side of the inner big oval part, right about the middle of the side, nearest the road. He's buried in the KOEPKE plot, which has a large four-sided stone marker, like an obelisk, with KOEPKE on it, and graves on either side of it. As you stand at the road looking at it, his grave will be on your right, and has a plain flat rectangular stone marker (veteran issue) and also has a little bronze standing marker denoting his WWI service. I was there this past June with my uncle, and from recollection, we drove in on the main road, then around the loop, stopping mid-way on the other side of it, right by the graves. I seem to remember some trees toward the west of the Koepkes, but none over their graves (it was hot and I was looking for shade!). I hope that helps; I am sorry for the lateness of the request. Like I said, sometimes I get these great ideas a bit late! I appreciate anything you are willing to do, Nancy. I never knew my grampa, except by stories from my dad. So I'm grateful you are helping me to honor his memory. If you are driving from downtown Amherst, you will pass the old family home at 317 S Main; I don't know who lives there now. Thanks again, SOOO MUCH! 1. [OHLORAIN] A favor
    2. Anna Hanson
    3. I am a bit slow at thinking up things, so I apologize in advance for the lateness of this request. Is there someone willing to do me a huge favor? I would like to have a flower or something put on my grandfather's grave to mark Veteran's Day; he's buried in the Crown Hill cemetery in Amherst. Was a WWI veteran, and since Veteran's day was originally Armistice Day, I'd like to recognize his service. I don't have any family in the area still, or I would ask them to do it. I will of course pay for the flowers and a bit more for the trouble of doing this. If anyone is willing to help me, please e-mail me off list at ananah@home.com. Thanks! Anna Hanson

    2. Karen Krugman
    3. Hi Duane, First thing I did was track the ancestors on all the census, Then I took a really good look at the 1900 census which tells you the YEAR that they came. Maybe gives a year, or at least a number. I compare that to children's births, city directories and I come up with a window and I go line by line thru the passenger ships lists. I've found most the my husbands GERMAN lines came in after the harvest was done, usually in the fall, Late August into October. Been very successful this year with that sort of thing. Found both the Krugman's and the Dute's on passenger lists! 2. Lisa Baker
    3. Hi List: I live in California and found out that an article written by my Great -Great Grandmother is in the Oberlin College Library. I contacted the library & they advised me to get an interlibrary loan - through my local library, which I tried and they would not send it! Is anyone going there in the near future and would be willing to copy something for me. I do have the call #s etc.... I also will pay for the copy. If anyone can help, please contact me privately. Thank you, Lisa Baker looking for: Whiting, Gatrell, Fitch and Jackson

    2. Just thought those out of the area would like to know.... As advised on the website, I first wrote to the appropriate health department in advance to inquire about the availability of certain birth records. I received a (nice) letter from them stating they cannot do this by mail and said I would need to come in person or hire a researcher to find the record for me. Richelle

    3. James, The best resource for obituaries would be local libraries. They have microfilms available and will do a lookup for a nominal fee. At the Lorain county genealogy site there is a list of microfilmed newspapers that each library holds. http://www.centurytel.net/lorgen/newspaper.htm While there, click on the link to Lorain or Elyria library addresses.
