    1. [OHLORAIN] Denve Post Obituary--
    2. Carole J. Schetter
    3. There was an obituary in this morning's paper for Rudy Brada who was born in Elyria in 1926 and graduated from Elyria High School. Married Patricia Gammons in Amherst, OH in 1949. If anyone is searching this family or interested, I would be happy to send you a copy. It is a very complimentary article, with photo and headline "Regis teacher was there for Students." He taught at Regis High School here for 35 years. Carole

    3. Hello, again, In my previous email concerning the Wakeman site and the fact that the library is discontinuing the transcribing of the genealogy and history, I copied and pasted my previous message. In that message, I used an email address that I'm trying to phase out (to get rid of all the SPAM I'm getting). I believe it still works, but if you would like to reply to me directly, please use cg47@shoestringcreations.com I'm sorry for the confusion, and hope that we get lots of replies to submit. Thanks again. Claudia Garner Wakeman, OH

    3. Hello, everyone. A couple of weeks ago, I sent this email to the Erie, Huron and Lorain county lists. It was the day before Thanksgiving, and a time when the Rootsweb mail seemed to be behaving incorrectly. I only saw the letter on the Erie county list, so I'm resending this request. I've only heard from 5 people, and can't believe that is all that would be helped by this site. I also just realized I never put the link to the Wakeman site. Thank you. "I need your help, and this is the only way I can ask. I know many of you have used the Wakeman and Wakeman Library site to research the history of the area. We have been transcribing the history books and putting them online for searching, and preserving the history. The library is considering seriously stopping the program. In fact, they have stopped the program at this time. I think they don't know how many people have used the site and have benefited from it. If you wouldn't mind, please email me privately at claudia@shoestringcreations.com with your thoughts about the site, and how it has benefited you. We will present the emails to the person who donated the money for the project. The site can be reached at http://www.wakeman-ohio.com or http://www.wakemanlibrary.com (Genealogy Resources link)" Thanks so much, and I'm sorry to have taken list time for this request. 3. I think it was a step backwards to remove those indexes from the internet. I've used both of them and need to use the Texas one again to find my uncle's place of death. 1. [OHLORAIN] new virus
    2. Sue Strick
    3. Hi, here's the latest: "Latest Worm Attacks Antivirus Apps A new Visual Basic Script virus is rapidly spreading via E- mail and the ICQ instant-messaging system, shutting down most antivirus and desktop security apps. The worm, dubbed the Goner virus, greets targets with the subject "Hi" and the text reads: "How are you? When I saw this screensaver, I immediately thought about you. I am in a hurry, I promise you will love it!" What users really download is Gone.scr, a copy of the compressed worm. If the file is opened, the worm tries to destroy all security apps. A back door is installed, linked to an Internet Relay Chat program, and the app can be used to launch denial-of-service attacks against Internet Relay Chat servers." >From Infomation Week "And!!! it also try to delete the anti-virus and firewall softwares in your computer. Hence the name 'Goner'." Thanks to my friend Kaye for the heads-up on this one! 2. Just a hunch on my part. I have been at a dead end on my Stephen Gunn, who married Magaret Shupe in 1823 in Lorain County (marriage recorded in Huron County). I notice, as a middle name, the named Belle shows up twice in later generations. Since I have plenty of information now on the other branches, I wonder were Belle came from. Does anyone know of any Belle families in Lorain County, dating back to the early 1800s? It could be, and this is a pure guess, that Belle may be the maiden name of Stephen Gunn's mother. Stephen had a grandson named Ellis Belle Gunn (born 1874) and a great grand daughter named Iva Belle Gunn (born 1900). Bob Nordstrand (BobNMi@aol.com)

    1. Re: [OHLORAIN] Numbers after names
    2. Ken, Are you looking at the index pages? If so, the numbers after the names represent what pages you'll find those surnames on. Then, if you go to the Cemetery Index, they are listed by page numbers as well at that location. So, the page numbers in the index are indicative of what actual page they were on in the original transcript. The uploading of this information is remaining true to the original. Margaret

    3. I am saddened by the death of dear Harry Painter. A more faithful and dedicated person you could never met. Harry and his wife Dorothy have contributed so much over the years to the field of genealogy & local history of LC. Harry was a charter member & lifetime member of the Lorain County Chapter of OGS as is his wife Dorothy. I had have known them since 1963, when Dorothy & I worked together in the NR Girl Scout program. I personally considered the Painter's to be the experts on North Ridgeville history & genealogy, next to Jeff Sigsworth that is. Last week, on Nov. 26th, another charter member of the LC Chapter of OGS passed away. Shirley Oney, her Nov.27th obituary is at: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=2692334&BRD=1699&PAG=461&dept_id=46369&rfi=8 Shirley was the 19th person inducted into the First Families of Lorain County. She had proven, in 1985, that her CRAPO ancestors were residents of Brighton Twp. by 1850. Each day is a gift to us, folks, so remember to open yours, gently of course. -- Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH

    1. [OHLORAIN] Harry Painter of North Ridgeville
    2. Jeff
    3. Nancy Meyers (and other Chapter members): Karen and I just heard that Harry R. Painter of North Ridgeville died (this morning, I believe) at age 90. Harry and his wife Dorothy were longtime members, in fact Lifetime Members, of the LCHS Genealogical Workshop of Elyria (now disbanded & merged into the LCCOGS), the Lorain County Historical Society (where Harry put in many volunteer hours on various building & repair projects), and our Lorain County Chapter, OGS; and they were the founders of the North Ridgeville Historical Society -- setting up and moving the museum there into four different buildings over the last 25 years; and assisting in the early stages of restoration of the Jaycox Road one-room school. In about 1980, the Lorain Co. Historical Society established an award for members' volunteerism, naming it the "Harry Painter Award." Harry was past president and treasurer of the Genealogical Workshop, and longtime treasurer of the NRHS; he and Dorothy were also very active members & officers of the Lorain County Beekeepers for many years. Harry will be greatly missed; our condolences go to Dorothy and their children. Jeff S., Elyria President, N.R. Historical Society Trustee, Lorain County Historical Society Editor, Lorain County RESEARCHER (LCCOGS)
