This is a continuation of the Cemetery Project which will be the grave markers and cemetery inscriptions. We are nearing the end of getting the rest of the cemeteries online. Ridgelawn is being proofed and there are still about 4 or 5 smaller ones to do yet. Of course, still being a newcomer to all of this in the broadest of terms, I plead my ignorance on a book by Howard Saddler. Perhaps this is something we may want to look in to as well. Of course, don't know about the copyright laws on that one. If any on this list have ideas or suggestions of what they would like to see online as part of this chapter, I would certainly appreciate their input to me privately at margral5@aol.com I think the website maintained by Sue is absolutely wonderful and there really is a wealth of information there. Margaret
Margaret, As a LC researcher, I am curious to learn what information will be put online for this cemetery? Is this the project of the Elyria Biographical & Historical Commission? Grave markers & cemetery inscriptions only? Will the Ridgelawn work of the late attorney & historian Howard Saddler be used in anyway? -- Nancy M. Hello; I wonder if someone with access to the LC cemetery book would do a look up for me. The web site indicates that there is a QUADE entry on page 246. That page also indicates that page is for Ridgelawn Cemetery which is not yet on line. To recent subscribers: Alas, Lorain County does have the same problem as does any group we associate ourselves with. Just are simply not enough volunteers to go around for any project. Nick & I, (both so-called retirees) & perhaps one or two other volunteers here in Lorain County, that also do free genealogy research, have long waiting lists of requests for help with obits, cem lookups, death/birth records, wills etc. It involves travel time, gas, sometimes parking costs, in addition to time finding the desired answer to your request. You can cut the time it takes to help you, if you give more info rather that just a surname. If we have a time frame at least and an area of the county, that will help us help you. Nick lives an hour from the court house, while I am 45 minutes. So you CAN help, by first contacting various health departments/libraries to request a copy of a record. Please share with us the response that you have gotten from any dept. or facility. We do not want to redo any research that has been done already. Please know that all active LC researchers & groups are in touch with each other and do compare notes, problems & questions. Our web master, Sue, has listed all the needed address at http://www.centurytel.net/lorgen/resources.htm and you can do many lookup yourself by checking http://www.centurytel.net/lorgen/cemetery/cemetery.htm There is also a lot of free help from many, many researchers that have resources at home, that are willing to help you. http://www.centurytel.net/lorgen/lookups.htm Please check out all the links at the lorgen site. People have worked hard to make this site worth your time. It always surprises me to learn that some new subscribers to this list, has not visited that web page. We do wish all of you success with your LC research. It is always a personal joy to me when I can add to your family history in some way. -- Nancy M. Mary, Contact the Elyria public library at http://www.elyria.lib.oh.us/ You can make arrangements with them to copy that obituary for a very nominal fee. This is starting to be a pet peeve of mine and I mean no disrespect to anyone on the list discussing viruses. I have at some point seen a virus discussion on every list I have been on. I wish that rootsweb would address the problem by explaining why you cannot get a virus from the list and it should be included in the welcome letter to every list. At the very least they should provide a very visible link explaining it. As soon as I am done here I am going to write rootsweb and suggest it. I hope that a few others will do the same. Maybe they will address the issue. One other thing, Please go through your address books periodically and delete addresses of people you no longer correspond with. I was recently sent a virus by someone I had an ebay transaction with almost 2 years ago. Fortunately I didn't open the attachment, but there was no reason for my address to still be in her address book. I'm off to email rootsweb I hope a few others do the same :-) Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: <VictorJBlomberg@aol.com> To: <OHLORAIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2002 9:20 PM Subject: Re: [OHLORAIN] leaving the lists > Virginia, > > YOu dont get viruses from the list. Virginia, YOu dont get viruses from the list. You cant. Any viruses you have are from personal emails. or items you downloaded.
Virginia, Sorry that you feel you have to leave the list. Our Rootsweb mailing lists are checked for viruses and spam mail before the email is passed on to the list. None of us has ever received a virus from the list. No attachments are allowed by Rootsweb to be sent to the list. Also as list administrator I am advised when spam has been diverted from our list. Believe me there is a lot of that too. Please believe that this mailing list is safe! A side note: the publisher, Chas. F. Short, is my great great uncle; I'm intrigued about what else he may have published. Anna Hanson -- "Blessed are the PURR in heart"... >^.,.^<

Virginia, I would add to the remarks Sue has made, above, that you are almost certainly acquiring these viruses through other e-mail correspondence, usually from people you know and whose e-mail address books list you as a correspondent. Many of the current crop of viruses prey upon the e-mail program's address book and mail themselves to people in the address book without the infected computer's owner ever knowing about it. And if your system is unprotected, the virus will use your system to email itself to the people in YOUR address book (again, without your knowing about it), thus completing its vicious circle. There is only one way to guarantee yourself maximum protection against viruses; get a good anti-virus program and use it. One of the best is Norton Ant-Virus. The current version costs less than $30.00 at Staples Office Supply. It automatically updates its virus definitions, intercepts infected emails, programs and documents and more. A much nicer alternative than cutting off communication with those you'd like to correspond with . . . Regards, Byron byron.bray@cmug.com

Greetings to the list, I am in search of any info on my Grandparents Samuel Gibson, b.1879ish. and Mary "Mollie" (Brown) Gibson, b.1885ish, who lived on the border of Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties. My Grandparents originated in TN, moving to OH through and from KY and then IN. I know they arrived in OH with their daughters Dorothy (8) and Violet (1) some time between 1916-1917, where in Aug. 1917 they added Victor (my Dad) to the family. I cannot find any death records on them - country wide! But, I believe my Grandmother died in NEOH - maybe in Lorain Co? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
