Debby, I located Punxsutawney in Jefferson Co PA. That county's webpage address is http://www.pa-roots.com/~jefferson/ When you reach the page, note the column called Research Resources. There you will find a link to their mailing list. Good luck. Sue -- Sue Strick, Lorain County Coordinator for OHGenWeb Lorain County Genealogy Page, http://www.centurytel.net/lorgen L.C. Hi , I am Becky Jackson. I am doing a geneology of old family members and believe the Webb family I am searching lived in this area in the 40's. Ruth Elizabeth Webb went to Oberlin High in 1945. Does anyone have any family history of this Webb family. It would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Becky J. ThreeIron9@cfl.rr.com

Hi, This is just general historic interest thing for Elyria. I was told that Elyria ad a music composer but never saw anything about him. Well I was going throught some old piano music that my mother hadand found this " Soo rapids March and two Step by Arthur C. Pomeroy and published by the R>M> Summer & Son, Elyria, O. it was copywrited MCMIV. I don't know how to read Roman Numerals, but I know it was around the turn of the last century. Just a bit of historic interest. The paper is in tatters but its still all there. Ken
I am looking for Barbara Reining. I got an email from a John Mills. He mentioned about possible family connections. He found her in a query that she is associated with the Lorain County Chapter. I am also looking for information on the Mills family that lived briefly in Jefferson County Ohio. ("Harrison Mills") Thanks! If you want a really cool "view" of Lorain county, you can go to Microsoft's Terraserver Image page and see satellite photos of an area you're interested in. This one is of Amherst, zoomed in to 1 mile above, and somewhat centered on my grandma's house (317 S Main); at the lower left you can see the Crown Hill Cemetery. I like to use this site in conjunction with MapQuest to pinpoint an area I'm researching. http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=10&T=1&X=1987&Y=22917&Z=17&W=2 Anna William & Lily Silverthorn wrote: > Nancy - thank you very very much for all this info and address. Tried to keep my thoughts to myself here, but if you respond to Spam, you are indicating that the address they used to reach you is indeed a live address and it gets sold off / distributed even more. The spam I receive is a direct result of well-meaning friends leaving my address at sites 'to share with your friends'. I've asked them to stop. Along the same lines, I've had more comments ABOUT spam in my recent e-mail than the actual amount of spam itself. When one becomes a computer/internet user, the first responsibility is to know how to protect themselves from this and viruses. Gail, Ohio
I as well as Karen have deleted many times and sometimes during the day that is all I get. I had the place where I pay for usage even send it to those places to stop but I STILL DELETE all the time.Sylvia -----Original Message----- From: OHLORAIN-D-request@rootsweb.com <OHLORAIN-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: OHLORAIN-D@rootsweb.com <OHLORAIN-D@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, March 10, 2002 9:18 AM Subject: OHLORAIN-D Digest V02 #62
In response to those of you who have never been to an Ohio Genealogical Society Annual Conference before.... It will be held April 18-21 at the Toledo Hilton Hotel. Program includes many of the most outstanding genealogy speakers around the US, including the famous Cyndi Howell of CYNDI's List. Please do visit the OGS website for more information about the class offerings, registration & cost. You do not have to attend each day or even go to the additional expense of the lunches & dinners that are offered at an additional cost. Awards & entertaining programs do take place at the evening dinners. Annual OGS business meeting is usually at one of the lunch times. Select one of several classes during each session. There will be lots of exhibits & vendors featuring a wide variety of genealogical wares. Many County Chapters also have set up tables for their latest publications. Phone 1-419-756-7294 for a conference booklet if you wish. BTW, did you know that OGS is the largest state genealogical group in the US? My,how OGS has grown! At one time I served as Trustee-at-large for OGS and in 1989 was the State Conference Chairman, at Independence that year.Served as Hospitality Chairperson for the 1988 NGS/OGS National Conference in Columbus. Although I'm not familiar with the name, I would check first with St. Mary Church in Elyria. My grandmother's family was Irish and that was the church they attended. I know many of the early German settlers also attended St. Mary's. --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo! Mail - the world's greatest free email!
Nancy - thank you very very much for all this info and address. This is my first genealogy inquiry in Ohio so I am a bit unfamiliar with the geography, so even your Mapquest suggestion is top notch!! I will definitely do as you instructed and will get back to all as to my progress. Any further info from anyone on MINARD/SMITH in Elyria encouraged. Thanks again! Yes, now back to genealogy.... Sarah Minard did live in Elyria, but perhaps was not in the Elyria area when she died. Have you checked on the Sarah Minarde who died 1917 in Summit Co.? She nor son-in-law Tom do not have death records on file at the Elyria Health Dept. There was a Thomas E. Smith who did die in Lorain County somewhere on May 29, 1933 per OHS deaths online. In 1907... Elyria directory, Sarah & Mrs. Mary J. Smith live at 417 Adams St. No mention of Thomas himself in this directory. 1923... Mrs. Jane Smith lived at 417 Adams, but no Thomas. 1929... Mrs. Smith still at that address. No thomas at that address in that year either. 1937... Mary J. Smith at 417 Adams (listed self as a widow of T.E.) Also a J.W. Carson, laborer, is renting at this address 1939...Jack Carson is listed as the home owner at this address and Mary Jane Smith as the renter. Clayton is also living here 1951...Clayton E. Smith & wife Minnie here. Clayton Ernest Smith died in 1952 and is buried at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria. ....that is what I have to share with you from my at-home resources. Now onward to the long "help wanted" list. BTW, it just interesting for you to enter the address of 417 Adams St, Elyria, at a map site such as MapQuest, so you can get a general idea on a map, as to where your Sarah Minard lived in 1907. Perhaps some of your family members are listed in the EHS directory that was just posted this past week. Both Nick & I urge you again, to be in touch with the LC Health Dept. to check on the deaths of Sarah, Thomas & Mary Jane Smith. Address at the Resources link, click on Lorgen webpage below my name. Wow, never heard of that one yet. lol Do not mind those well intentioned acquaintances who just send text messages. Can always delete, delete, delete, time again. That is time consuming but not too hard to deal with. Then there are times when folks sending their graphics, photos, cartoons, etc have actually locked up my system. I also try to tell friends via a short email, in advance, that I will be sending an attachment. As to the plain text email, believe it or not, that recent tale about the dates/times being so unique....got that one from over 50 people within two days. At least we're protected from that in our genealogy "Lists" -- Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH
You also can send there message back to them about 50 times, and they seem to take your name off their list. lol
I have never attended anything like this. Would some one be so kind to email me and tell me what they are like and what it is all about? Thanks so much, Penny
Although a little off topic, in reference to the discouragement you reference, I have been quite successful using the free services of http://www.Spamcop.net. Give it a look and also you might want to read "10 tips for reducing Spam" that you can find at http://www.email911.com/ebooks/10tips.pdf . Nuff said, now back to genealogy - still interested in anyone that can assist me with finding the death burial record of Sarah MINARD who died in Elyria City area after 1910 (where she was listed age 81 in the census) . Thanks in advance for any and all assist. Although, this is not genealogy, I offer the following, as a way of cutting down on SPAM. 1. In my experience the most effective way to cut down on SPAM is convincing one's good friends and relatives from sending on those chain type letters with the sentimental stories, poems, that some people find touching. Some of those "communications" have some 500 or more working email addresses attached to them. They must be a spammers delight! If one MUST pass on some of that "stuff", cut and paste the message into a new message with only one or two email addresses. When someone asks me if I received some of that material, I kindly reply that I delete it all without opening so as not to perpetuate spam. Most of my friends, over a year or two have taken the hint, and no longer send it to me. They are still my friends too <g> 2. NEVER respond to be taken off a spammers list -- you have just told them you have a good email address. 3. Contact your ISP -- some of them have spam blockers, and some of the ISPs have a place where you can forward on the spam, which can in the long run keep the amount any one user receives. To make those services work, we users need to take the time to forward on the spam messages to the appropriate places. Of course the spammers are clever, and find new addresses to use so one will never be entirely free of the spam. 4. Put a firewall such as the free "Zone Alarm" on your computer so that no one can break into your computer and use it as a server to send out viruses and spam to others. Along with your up to date virus program, Zone Alarm and your virus program will keep you computer free of viruses. I have had a new ISP (Time Warner cable provider) for about 4 months now, but have kept my old ISP I had for about 4 years so I won't lose genealogy contacts. I am getting almost NO spam from the cable modem account from which I post frequently to rootsweb lists, but when I check the old ISP most of the messages are spam. It is my OPINION that my #1 point above is the primary reason for not quickly recreating the volume of spam. I hope this helps Nancy and Karen and others of you responding to her message. Anybody come across anything new on CARPENTER and DAILY families in the Avon, Lorain Co. area in the 1800a. I am willing to share what I know on these families.
