    3. William, Thanks for your helpful suggestion. I have posted this several times in the past. There is a big turnover on the list and the long-term list members comply very nicely. I also believe that some newer computer users do not know how to change the subject line. 3. In 1999, I buried my Mother who had paid into Social Security and 2 weeks later I had to bury my 27 year old Daughter . I was the executor of both and the Social Security here in Fremont,Ohio told me that it was no longer paid. So I ended up with paying for 2 funerals myself which my Daughter had a Mobile Home that when sold (2 years later) paid hers and last year I finally got my Mother's paid off -Month by Month. They say they pay for it on the ad on TV but they somehow no longer do. In 1974 my Father's went to the funeral home but do not know when they changed it. 3. I love hearing about those 'rootsweb moments"!!! I just found my mom's first cousin about a week ago. She was posting on a message board but using a spelling for one of our surnames that I had never tried. I have never been able to contact her side of the family because of a stupid family "feud" that happened before I was even born. The two of us have been able to get past the stupid feud and finally share information. Thanks for sharing about your moment. 1. [OHLORAIN] change in law
    2. NM Meyers
    3. Dear Researchers, Just verified with my local funeral director some information for this SS death benefit discussion we have been having on the list. He said...."that in 1994 the SS death benefit law was changed, so that the one-time benefit would hence forth be paid only to a surviving spouse that is living at the same address or to a dependent child." He also said that in the early 1990's, in OHIO, the death certificates may longer list the address of a nursing home as the address of the deceased. Must list the former address of the deceased, if not found, than that address of the nearest relative. He does not know about the law for other states. Hope this helps, remember the date of the law change was 1994. -- Nancy M. 1. [OHLORAIN] tracking down a digest message
    2. NM Meyers
    3. Thank you to Wm. Silverthorn for pointing out the problem and the simple remedy. People surely do need to change the subject title when responding to a OHLORAIN-D list message. It takes so much time to track down a digest message, that someone has made a reference to, which I probably have already deleted. We then have to spend time hunting for that message at the archives site. -- Nancy M. 1. [OHLORAIN] Suggestion to all people replying in DIGEST mode
    2. William & Lily Silverthorn
    3. Suggestion to one and all - when responding to a message in the digest mode (like I am here), PLEASE either 1) change the subject header to either the subject of the particular message you are responding to, or 2) change it to a new subject that is pertinent to what you are trying to communicate. Few of us have time to read all the messages that come in and when we only see: Re: [OHLORAIN] Re: OHLORAIN-D Digest V02 #83 Re: [OHLORAIN] Re: OHLORAIN-D Digest V02 #83 Re: [OHLORAIN] Re: OHLORAIN-D Digest V02 #83 or the like, it is unlikely the right people will be attracted to read your message. I see so many replies that come in the digest with this sort of "subject", the whole point of having a subject line is lost. I just don't have time to read all of them to see if they are of interest to my particular geo and surname interest in Lorain County, but at the same time I don't want to miss something that is mislabeled. Just thought that we should all take note ... after all, genealogy is what we are here for, and getting the right people to read your message is the first step. A period suggestion along this line by the list manager would be a good idea! Just a thought. Regards, William Silverthorn Los Angeles, CA Now the first person who responds to this message in digest mode without changing the subject line, will have all their genealogy research taken away and be required to start over !! ;-)

    1. [OHLORAIN] St. Martin's, Valley City
    2. Shirley J Hulett
    3. Hi List members: I'm wondering if anyone on either of these lists has had great luck getting family records or even responses from St. Martin of Tours, Valley City/Liverpool. And if so, how you went about. I wrote to them once and received no response. A fellow researcher locally was able to get me some records, based on her friendship with the church secretary. However, there are others I need and I'm not sure how to go about it. I have distant cousin-in- law who said officials at St. Martin's finally let her look at the records and she was able to confirm that her grandmother was buried at St. Martin's without a headstone. She said that judging from the activity she could see on that day, it looked like someone had been inputting old records into a computer. Unfortunately, my family members who worship religiously at St Martins are not interested in gen research and the back- slider are but have no contacts there! (I'm Protestant and live in San Diego so my credentials in that dept are even fewer) Shirley HAAS Hulett in San Diego CA ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 3. Hi Tom, Thank you very much. I did call and they told me that only a spouse or minor/dependent child could receive the death benefit. Neither applies in the case of our father. My sister got the same answer when she called. Perhaps this provision has changed since you last knew of it?
