    3. The Lorain County History is offered on the on-line version of the Chronicle-Telegram which is at http://www.chronicletelegram.com/ There is a link to an order blank that says "Order Yours Today" but right now, that link doesn't seem to lead to the order blank. (It goes to a slow-loading plug for the Not Forgotten Box.) But there are phone numbers: 1-800-848-6397 or 440-329-7000 Sorry I can't tell you how much it is. Maybe someone else knows. 3. In July of this year I followed the suggestion from Jeanne Crews and learned of the above book. I promptly ordered it, and received it recently. I am surprised there has not been further comment about this publication here. I have loved going through it and seeing what Lorain County looked like when some of my ancestors lived there. I am impressed with the quality and scope of this lovely book, and am so pleased to have it. It so happened that when I opened it for the first time it fell open to a page on which a family member was depicted! Thanks to any and all who had a part in this, it is a real winner! 2. In 1890 a special Census "Surviving Soldiers,Sailors,Marines and Surviving Spouses" survived the destruction of the Census. I have a CD of the Lorain County pages, and have identified a family member. If anyone is interested, I will do look-ups if you can furnish full name and township. May be slow - there are 18 pages just for Elyria Township. Please contact me directly online. Frank

    1. Christmas Gift to List
    2. Karen Ansley Krugman
    3. Happy Holidays to all! Over the years that I have been on this list there have been many of you who have shared with me in various forms. Your help has been greatly appreciated. Now its my turn to give back. A gift was recently given to me and I want to share. My husbands step mother recently scanned 873 Ohio death certificates for me. She scanned them to cd's and included an index. I can not guarantee that I can help all of you, BUT, here's what I will do. IF you have an ancestor that lived either in Lorain or Medina and died between 1910 and 2002 and you have some idea of the year of death, I will check my cd's and If I have the death certificate I will email you the scanned image. This offer is good ONLY THRU 12/24/2004 midnight. If your request is in not in by that time, I can't do it. Keep in mind that most of the lines I am offering. Again I can't promise that everyone will be able to have their certificate found, but if I have it you can have a copy in your email. LIMIT ONE LOOKUP PER PERSON/HOUSEHOLD. Please don't ask for more than that, and I won't do Everyone with any given surname. One specific person please! Please send your request to [email protected] so that we don't tie up the list and put DC LOOKUP in the subject line. Merry Christmas my friends!

    3. Hi Deb, I don't know if this will help at all, but there were some from the Wellington area who belonged to the German Baptist Brethren (I think all of the Brethren were German and a form of Baptist), although I don't know if they had a church actually in Wellington. I heard the headquarters was a seminary at nearby Ashland College and there was a German Baptist church also in part of Rochester that used to be part of Wellington just south of town. Possibly the Church of the Brethren would know -- I think there is a Brethren church on Lake Breeze Drive in Sheffield Lake also, and maybe they would know if there are archives, or you could call Ashland Theological Seminary at the college. I think they still exist. I've seen the names of Rochester Baptist in Wellington, Black River Church of the Brethren (Baptist) but that's near Penfield, Camden Baptist in Wellington, Wellington Free Will Baptist in Wellington, and First Baptist in Wellington -- possibly one of these is the church or was the church and it changed names? If it closed down, maybe the Brethren will be able to tell you. 3. Baptists traditionally baptize adults and have dedication for infants. I guess if there are records for the church, they might list new members by year, which could give an approximate year for the baptism since after baptism one would become a church member.
