    3. I don't know about the records, but I do recall, as a small child that there was a place on Murray Ridge Rd. around Infirmary Rd. that my Grandmother called the "Old Folks Home". I don't know if this might be anything that could help you with your research, but possibly others on the list can recall this "Home", too. 2. Several years I asked if anyone had been successful at getting non-medical information from records for people who had resided/died at the Old Home for the Aged, which, I believe, is now the ELYRIA UNITED METHODIST VILLAGE at 807 WEST AVE, ELYRIA, Ohio 44035 . I never inquired myself, but am wondering again if any of these records have ever been archived anywhere or become available--I'm taking about records of lo-o-o-ng deceased people, like pre-1950s. Anyone, any information on this? Sarah

I am sending you a personal email with some Census information from 1881. There are 2 Charles Campin's on the 1881 Census for England, and one has a daughter Eliza Hope this helps. Will continue to look at the newspapers. Margaret Richard Kurish wrote on 1/16/2005, 4:56 PM: > I have been researching some ancestors who came to the U.S. from > England in 1883. 3. I have been looking at too many census records lately! In my first posting I referenced the 1910 census. That is not correct. It was actually the 1900 census, which would have put the Charles and Eliza Shepherd's marriage in the 1888 or 1889 time frame. Time to log off for a while --- sorry for the error! Richard

    3. I have been researching some ancestors who came to the U.S. from England in 1883. Some years ago, an elderly family member told me we had a family relation to a family named Shepherd, who lived in Lagrange. These persons are also buried in the Lagrange cemetery. They are: Charles M. Shepherd 1856 - 1922 Eliza M. Shepherd 1872 - 1902 I have never been able to substantiate a relationship. However, recently I viewed the 1910 census for this family, and several interesting facts came to light. My gg grandmother, who was married three times, married her last husband, Charles Campin, in England in 1881, and they along with two of his sons from a previous marriage, immigrated to the U.S. in 1883. My gg grandmother's given name was Eliza. One of her husbands was named Samuel Slade, and the last husband was Charles Campin --- the name of the third husband is currently unknown. I now am curious if Eliza Shepherd was the daughter of Eliza Campin. The 1910 census indicates that she was born in England in 1872, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1883 --- the same year my ancestors immigrated. Is it possible that Eliza Campin's daughter Eliza also immigrated with the family in 1883? The facts are at least a coincidence --- and would explain the "family relationship". On the 1910 census, Charles and Eliza Shepherd indicated that they had been married 11 years, which would put the marriage date about 1898 or 1899. Does anyone out there have information that includes Eliza Shepherd's maiden name? Perhaps someone with a subscription to Ancestry.com Historical Newspaper collection, would do me the favor of a search for a marriage notice of Charles and Eliza Shepherd. Perhaps a marriage notice would give her maiden name. Since she died in 1902, perhaps there is even an obituary for her in the Historical Newspapers. If someone would do a search for me, I would really appreciate it! A lookup may save me a trip to the Probate Court records in Elyria. Thanks in advance for any help with this quest. Richard

    3. In working on the Krugman & Dute lines I found a connection to the family of C.E. "Charles" Baylor and his wife, Etta Hoard. Their daughter, Etta "Mildred" Baylor married a Wesley Dute Miller. What I'd like to know is, Does anyone have any information on the birth/death/burial of Charles and Etta Hoard Baylor? They are the parents of Etta Mildred Baylor who married Wesley Dute Miller. I've not found them in the Lorain County Cemetery book, and my searching on Historical newspapers has yielded social information but nothing on the vitals of this couple. Can anyone help? 1. Re: [OHLORAIN] Sage Family
    2. NatureGem
    3. Hi Richard, I have a little information on Anna, but mostly on the rest of the family -- not sure what happened to her. Deb B. Charles Rice Sage was a clergyman who was born Oct 5 1822, married in 1848, moved to Knox Cty, IL in 1849, and died about 1850. He married Martha Alvira Twitchell who was born Mar 1, 1827 in Brimfield, Portage Cty, OH (daughter of John Twitchell and Polly Eager) They are on the 1850 Illinois census with their daughter Annah, age 1, shortly before he died. Charles Rice Sage had 14 siblings: Sylvester, Rodney, Warren, Luther, Sidney, Seymour, Anny, Henry, Andrew, Marcus, Eliza, Harriett, Hattie, and Julia Martha then married Charles Osborn in about 1855, who had also been previously married (to a Julia), and they lived in Wea Twp, Miami Cty, Kansas. Charles was born about 1817 in Connecticut. Julia is buried at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield, Ohio among many other Osborns and Twitchells. Charles Osborn and Martha are on the 1870 census in Miami County, Kansas: Charles Osborn, age 53, born CT Martha A., age 43, born OH Charles W., age 21, born OH (son from Charles's first marriage) George W, age 15 (son from Charles's first marriage) Ella M., age 9, born ~1860 in Kansas Mattie and Minnie, twin daughters, age 3 Martha died Mar 29, 1919 in Spring Hill, Johnson Cty, Kansas Anna Sage may have lived, but I have not been able to find her on the 1860 census when she would have been about 11 years old. She may have been 21 and married on the 1870 census, but have not been able to find her there either. I did find a record of an Anne/Anna Sage (b~1849 so correct date) who married a James Rouse (b:~1846) of Illinois -- haven't been able to substantiate, but this is a good possibility. Charles Rice Sage was the son of Charles Rice Sage Sr. (b:Oct 18 1802 in NY - d: Aug 24 1877 in Huntington, LorainCty, Oh) and Anna Rice (his first wife, b:Aug 29 1803 in Wardsboro, Windham, Vt - d: Feb 27, 1869 in Huntington Twp, Lorain Cty, OH). They were married in Sullivan, Medina Cty, Ohio on Dec 2 1821 or Feb 5 1822 (have found both dates and have not confirmed which is correct). I believe Charles may have had a second wife named Betsey. Anna died in 1869 and on the 1870 LaGrange Twp, Lorain Cty, OH census there was a Charles R. Sage with the correct birth date and a wife Betsey Bryant, age 63 b: NY. Charles Rice Sage Sr. had 11 siblings: Louisa/Lovesia, Sabrina, Joseph, Mary "Polly", Isaac, Lucetta, Alonzo, Alzina, Alonzo (one died I believe), Julia, and Jackson. Anna Rice's parents were Thomas Nichols Rice (1779 Mass-1857 Sullivan, Ashland, OH, Old Rice Cemetery) and Lucindia Parmelee (1780 CT-1862 Sullivan, Ashland, OH, Old Rice Cemetery). They married on Dec 11, 1800 in Vermont. Charles R. Sage Sr.'s parents were Isaac Sage (b:1775 in Berlin, CT - d:Nov 16 1846 in Ohio) and Polly Rice (b: Nov 9, 1778 Vt-d: Jun 14 1872). Isaac was the son of Solomon Sage and Lois Wilcox. At Old Huntington Cemetery next to the Methodist Church on the east side of Rt. 58 north of SR162 in Huntington are buried: C.R. Sage (Charles R. Sage Sr.) Oct 18 1802-Aug 24 1877 Anna Sage, wife of Charles, Aug 29 1803-Feb 27, 1869 On the 1860 Huntington Twp Census in Ohio: Charles Sage Sr. age 58 Ann, wife, age 57 Henry, son, age 21 Andrew, son, age 20 Marcus, son, age 18 Harriett, dau, age 16 Julia, dau, age 12 Living nearby in Huntington also in 1860 are sons (brothers of Charles Rice Sage Jr): Seymour Sage (28) married Harriett (25) and had daughters Elizabeth (6) and Evelyn (3) Sylvester Sage (26) married Mary (26) and had daughter Sylvena (1) Sidney Sage (31) married Louisa (26) and had daughters Flora (5) and Estella (4) Luther Sage (33) married Mary (27) and had son Frank (5) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marilyn & Richard" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 10, 2005 2:51 PM Subject: [OHLORAIN] Sage Family > Hi > > looking for information about Anna Sage born 1849 in Lorain Co. 3. I think the railroad (now CSX, at one time New York Central) that goes through North Ridgeville is the same track that goes through Rochester, Wellington, LaGrange, etc. My grandparents lived in Rochester and my grandfather worked on the railroad. The Rochester depot was moved (think in 1940's) from along the railroad to the school yard. At one time it was the cafeteria and later was a classroom. I went to the "old depot" for my 3rd grade. The depot is now the home of the Rochester Historical Society. Lois Baker Rochester Twp. 3. Pat, In the 1870s the L.S. & M. S. ( Lake Shore & Michigan Southern) Railroad ran through Ridgeville, south of Detroit Road (State Rt. 254). At that time, the area at the junction of current State Rts. 83 and 254, which was the main business area of Ridgeville, was known as Ridgeville Center. The area a little further south on State Rt. 83, where the railroad crossed, was known as Ridgeville Station. A depot was located at this location, on the west side of Rt. 83. Since the L.S.& M.S. was the only railroad that went through Ridgeville in the 1870s, and your ancestor lived in Ridgeville, there is a good chance that he was an employee of that railroad. A "railroad hand" was probably involved in maintaining the right of way, inspecting track, etc. The L.S. & M.S. later became the New York Central Railroad, and the line through North Ridgeville, currently exists as the Consolidated Railroad Corp., commonly known as "Conrail". The depot at Rt. 83 no longer exists at its former location. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that the depot building was saved and moved to a new location. Interestingly, an abandoned section of the L.S & M. S. Railroad has been made into a bicycle and walking trail between Elyria and Kipton. The bicycle trail runs through rural country, and a couple of old bridges and stone crossings over creeks, make the ride a pleasant trip through early Lorain County railroad history. Richard

    3. Thanks, Deb. I'd love to visit Ridgeville one day. Pat [email protected] wrote: I grew up in Ridgeville, and aways thought the intersection of State Rte. 83 and U.S. Rte 20 was Ridgeville Center. The intersection of Rts. 83 and 254 is in Avon Twp. The area of Ridgeville Twp. where the railroad crosses State Rte. 83, south of US Rte 20 (a.k.a. Center Ridge Rd.), was also called "Shawville". The Ridge Lumber Co. still has one of the railroad "bunkhouses" from the Shawville station. Deb > Pat, > > In the 1870s the L.S. & M. S.
