    3. Fellow Researchers, Beware, even on documents, things are not always what they appear to be. While going thru family papers of my late sister-in-law, I came across a beautifully embossed marriage certificate dated July 30, 1949. The certificate was from a Catholic church in Lakewood OH. Of course, it contained the names of the bride, groom, witnesses, priest, the church and the date. All were carefully written in beautiful penmanship. The best man was listed as Patrick Kopchik (brother of groom) and the maid of honor as Katherine S........ (brides best friend & still living). Alas it was not so. The bride & groom and a bridesmaid confirmed to us a few years ago, that someone in the church office had filled out the certificate before marriage actually took place. The facts were: Patrick was not even in the same state the day of the wedding. He was still on one of his infamous "toots" and the maid of honor had been married herself a few days earlier and had a new last name. The certificate was never corrected. ===== Nancy M. 3. Greetings to my BRITNELL cousins in Ohio. I am conducting a census for BRITNELL hopefully to be complete by March of 2005. During my research in the past fifteen years I have discovered that there are about 4000 of us using the name. This name appears to be going into decline. To avert the total loss of the name, somewhere down the line of time, I am hoping that we can come up with a solution to avoid this. We need your participation. The BRITNELL name has an interesting history and it would be a terrible shame to lose it. I don't much like being an endangered species. For those BRITNELLs who did not receive a census package in the mail please email me here-->[email protected] OR: write to me at 35 Deerpoint Road, SE, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, T2J 6R3 I hope to have the census complete by March of 2005. 1. Re: Jonathan S. and Nancy SMART
    2. Does anyone know anything about this couple who were in Elyria beginning 1840 census? They had a son named Wallace who stayed until his death, I think, in 1931. Wallace and his wife were close friends with a great aunt of mine, Alice "Kittie" Cathabel (ELLIOTT) Lippy. I know Kittie's parent's, but her father's parent's are my brickwall. I am researching all her associates, as one tactic to determine clues to my ELLIOTT brickwall. The Jon. SMART family were, in deed, neighbors in 1850 of William ELLIOTT's second wife's family (NICHOLS)--and Kittie's future mother, so . . . "me thinks" they were important, especially since they and the son, Wallace, remained life long family friends. Help, anyone? Would like to know Nancy's maiden name to start with, and any other biographical info. anyone has on them. Thanks, Sarah

    3. Long time Chapter members, Hazel Webster (nee Whipple) a former Chapter member for several years, who did much "armchair genealogy" in her healthier years, passed away in Elyria on Jan. 8, 2005. She gave frequent assistance to our 1st Chapter President Anne Glendening of Wellington who also was an armchair genealogist. Hazel was a resident of LaGrange Township at the time. Hazel completed the entire documentation for the ancestors of her former daughter-in-law Linda L.Langham Harmeling who was #64 of the First Family Inductees back in in 1988. If you missed the obit, you may view it and then leave a condolences at the memorial guestbook on: www.buschfuneral.com Wonder what our grandparents and parents would have thought of this method?
