Regarding the quest for a birth cert in down town Cleveland, Might I also suggest a call first. Tt seems I heard you had to reserve time slots, may or may not be true but a phone call might be prudent. Marilyn
My pleasure. You might want to check if they will mail you the certificate. Patricia, Thank you for the directions and the address for the Cleveland Vital Records. I also appreciate the comments about what time of day to try to go there. I am not real familiar with Cleveland and don't really like driving in bigger cities, so I really appreciate the information. Jane
Hi Jane, Here's the address for vital records of Cleveland, OH, Cuyahoga County. It is literally a few blocks south of the lake in downtown Cleveland. I've enclosed "driving directions" that I copied from Mapquest.com. I haven't been downtown in quite a while, so I'm not sure where you park, and ususally downtown parking is expensive. Just be careful, it can be somewhat dangerous with the street people, because it's quiet in the area, and seems deserted during the afternoon. Probably mid-morning say, 10am or mid-afternoon, say 2pm are good times. You also don't want to be there during lunch hour, or rush hour, since there are quite a few high rise office buildings which house lots of people, and lots of cars! If you call the place, I'm sure they'll let you know parking details, etc. Hope this helps. Need information on death date, place, and cemetery for James Monroe Conklin and his wife Susan. Living in Avon on 1900 Census. James born 1838 in New York. Susan born 1838 in Ohio. Also looking for information on their daughter, Minnie Conklin, born 1870, Lenawee County, MI. Living in Avon on 1910 Census. Patricia Strebig
I am sending this to two cousins who may be able to answer your questions. Sophia Lapp is one of my Lapp's -- I cannot find my papers, but my Lapp's came from Meckler Hesse-Kassel, so that sounds similar to your city name. Alice
The Taylor funeral home was known to have most of the catholic funerals. It wasn't exclusive for Catholics, but the chit chat at the time was what I said. Morning, Nancy: Thanks for the history lesson. I don't remember that Carl Taylor Funeral home at all, isn't that strange. The Curtis family were friends of my parents and grandparents and Harvey's son , Bill was an Elyria policeman, FYI. He used to spend summers with his cousins (?) who lived next door to my family on Rt. 113 when I was growing up. It's nice to have those kind of memories all come flowing back. My family used the Sudro-Curtis for many many years...In fact, my father, grandparents and my mother were all buried from there. I seem to remember that there Kroger store across the street also was a Big Lots, or some type of store like that for some years, probably back in the early 60s. Thanks again for the fun history lesson......Call me and stop for a cup of tea sometime......Peg ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Meyers" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, June 03, 2005 10:34 AM Subject: [OHLORAIN] two of Elyria's funeral homes Peg, The Carl L. Nancy, It sounds as if you know a lot about the area's history! Do you know what might have happened to the records from the Taylor Funeral Home when it was sold? I had heard that funeral homes never go out of business, really, but are just sold. Do you think that it was Sudro-Curtis that may have ended up with the records, since they were located so close to each other? Thanks. Just curious, Nancy. Where was that funeral home? Wasn't the old Kroger store in Elyria, about across the street from where Busch-Curtis-Scheuffler is located presently....I lived in Elyria in the 50s and couldn't place that business. Thank you for the information about Taylor. I'm not familiar with the Spitzer Brothers...were they another funeral home business? Are they still in business? The reason I ask is that my grandmother's adopted mother had her funeral services there in 1929 and I want to see about getting funeral records for her.
