Hi Suz Unfortunately, none of these names are familiar or in my files. However, Columbus Grove is promising. My grandmother Jennie SMITH was born in Columbus Grove 10Feb1875, the same time frame that your SMITHs were being born there. Her parents were Jared SMITH, b abt 1814 in Morris Co NJ, and Elmira LOVE, b 11Nov1832 probably in Huron Co OH. In an application for civil war widow's pension in 1881, Elmira stated they were married in Monroe Co MI, 10Apr1848, however I have not been able to document this. Jared was injured in the civil war and was never able to resume work at his previous level thereafter. Jared and Elmira had 7 other children, William J. b 1851 and Moses b 25Nov1871, both in Piqua Miami Co OH. I have not discovered where the other 5 were born: Mary b 1858; Ida b 1859; Elizabeth b 1861; David Judson b 15Nov1866 and Ella 30Sep1869. Jared was admitted to the Veterans Home in Dayton OH in 1880 and died there 13Jan1881 and is bur in the National Cemetery in Dayton. In the pension application Elmira said that William was living in Piqua; Mary Lloyd (married?) in Delphos OH; Elizabeth in Piqua; David with friends in Lima OH; Ella with friends NEAR Lima; Moses in the Childrens Home in Troy OH and my grandmother Jennie in Piqua. I would say that Col Grove is NEAR Lima. Sure seems like there should be a connection with your SMITH family. Do any of these names ring a bell?
