While it is rather long, I'm posting it in the hopes that someone else might find it interesting and hopefully recognize some of the names which are mentioned. Medford, 3rd mo. 14th 1843 Dear Aunt and Cousin, I have taken my pen in hand to adres you with a few lines to inform you the death of my Dear Mother. She departed this life the 14th of the 4 mo 1841. I ought to have written to you before know (now) but the tril?? Was so great it seems as though I could not and the trill?? is stil great but I thought it would not do to let it pass by again and again with out informing you. I was in poor health for some time before Mother's death and for some time after but thrue the kindness of my heavenly father I am restored to my health again. I am say fater than I ever was. I made my home with Brother Noah till the eight month 1842 then I moved to Gordons? Ferguson and there I remain. Mary Ferguson is in very poor health and has been for several months pas with a cancer in her breast. Hope Webster is very bad with cancer in her breast. She is confind to her bed and has been something like four months. Joshua Stokes has had it shock?? of the palsy and many are called to thear longe homes and Dear friend it is the desire of my sole and the prayer of my spirit that we may one and all and that we may have our work done in the day time so when the pale messenger comes and calls for us we may say thy servant is ready and watin for this time o lord. The sound of immortality is here again and again in this nabourhood. I just mensen a few that gon forth to be seen of wen no more. Joshua Waves and wife, Doctor Page and wife, Shin Olophant and wife, Betsey Jones, Hannah J?obine, Lydia Cranin, Elizabeth Sharp, K?isiah Sharp, William Stokes has beried his wife and two sons. Stacy Haines and wife. Poor David Rordger is so crasey his family had to take him to then sylem he has been thear about four weaks. He went from home on secondary morning in yousal health got to Medford and was soon taken supposed to geafit ? fell down and died emedily he is too be beried tomorough afternoon. This was alarming news too us all. It shess us the uncertainty of time and the necesety of being ready seing we now not the day nor our (hour) wen we are to be called away from this lower world time loudly calls for us too prepar to meete our god and the desire I now feel for myself and for all my dear friends is that we may meete with him in rest and peace never more to part ware there is joy and that for evermore my hart seems so fullwide.
