    1. [OHLOGAN-L] Logan Co Ancestors

    3. Hello all, I am one of those "brand new" Logan County subscribers although I've been researching Logan County ancestors for many years. Here's my list of direct and married into surnames. First and always foremost, HOOVER. My Jacob Hoover's will was probated in Logan County about 1840; his wife was Susannah Garver (possibly Sarver). She is buried with son, Jacob, in West Union Iowa cemetery. Jacob's burial place is unknown; we have not been able to locate it but have found cemeteries near where he lived that have piles of broken, discarded headstones. Jacob's is probably among them or he may not have had a stone. His heirs were sons: George, Jacob, John, and heirs of Martin who predeceased his father. Daughters were Mary, who married Michael Sherrard (Sherrod); Catherine Hoover who married John Rounds; Elizabeth Hoover who married Absalom Chambers; and Susanna Hoover who married a Lane (probably Caleb Lane.) Many of those marriages took place in Muskingum County, Ohio. Jacob (2) went to Iowa in 1849. He had married Elizabeth Rosier in Shelby County (where I believe my Rosier family lived prior to moving to Logan County). His brother, George Hoover married Permelia Rosier, also in Shelby County. I have a fairly complete line of descendants for Mary and Michael Sherrard; George and Permelia (Rosier) Hoover; Elizabeth and John Rounds and Jacob and Elizabeth Rosier (my direct ancestors). Need info on Suanna Hoover and Caleb Lane. Have some info on John Hoover, son of the Jacob of the Logan Co will. There were both Rosiers and Hoovers in Logan County before Jacob Hoover and Lawrence Rosier. I wonder whether that is why these families settled in Logan County? I feel certain that the earlier Rosiers must have been related to my Lawrence Rosier. Would very much like to exchange information with anyone researching Hoover, Rosier, Lane, Rounds, or Sherrard in Logan, Muskingum, or Shelby counties in Ohio and/or Clayton and/or Fayette Counties in Iowa. Information about the above families is posted on our genealogy home page at: http://www.telepath.com/sysjer/genealogy.html If any of these names are familiar, please check our pages and see if we may connect.
