He was born a Quaker in Tennessee, the son of Jesse and Hannah (Thornburgh) Baldwin, and was disowned for fighting in the War of 1812. By the 1840 census, he had moved to nearby Hardin co., OH. I'm not positive who the William Baldwin of the 1820 census was. The men of that name in the area are hard to keep track of sometimes. However, Daniel did have an older brother named William whose later history is largely unknown. This William, born prior to 1786, was disowned by the Miami Monthly Meeting for marriage contrary to discipline in 1807. After that, his history is uncertain, and I don't know if he was the man in Logan county in 1820. It was said that he moved to Mississippi, and then later to Indiana. His wife was apparently the Anna Crews who married a William Baldwin in Highland co., OH on 17 Apr 1806. Could this be yours? (Check out "The Baldwins from Virginia Westward" by Frank C. Baldwin (Oak Park, IL, 1985) for more details on related Baldwins, a number of whom lived in the Logan county, OH area.) Stewart Baldwin
