Great! Much needed here. My Logan county people are: COOKSON; REYNOLDS; STALEY; STRAYER; CLIPPINGER; KIPLINGER; MILLER; POLLOCK I am Susan Cruse (Suz) an Ohio native in western Oregon for the time being. My Mother is a Reynolds, and my Grandpa Reynolds' family was prominant and active in Logan Co. Thomas COOKSTON was my gggrandfather. He died in 1871 and is buried in Bellefontaine. Elias COOKSTON--his brother?--came with him from PA and farmed next to him on 2 adjacent farms on T203. The old Mt. Tabor Cemetery is literally filled with my family's COOKSTONS. I quite agree with Terry. We surely need to be more active here. We have a marvellous county, and need to be more attentive not only to its history, but to our associations with that history. Hi, Here's a little more info on some of my Logan Co. OH surnames: 1) My gggrandfather Joseph SMITH was born abt. 1823 in Greene Co. OH. He married Millbery RAGAN/RAGIN/REGAN (1823-1894) in Monroe Twp. Logan Co. OH March 20, 1845. I know nothing about Joseph's parents. I believe Millbery's parents were Jose and Sarah Ragan. 2) My greatgrandfather John W. WILLIAMS (1845-1925) was a son of John Williams (1809VA-1876) and Mary Abigail SHORT (1822OH-1903). I believe John Williams was a son of Obediah Williams (1786VA-1852) and Susannah Short (1790VA-1871), but have no proof, yet. Mary Abigail Short was a daughter of Henry Short (1787-1876) and Lydia Williams (1793-1882). I'm guessing that Obediah Williams and Lydia Williams were brother and sister, and Henry Short and Susannah Short were brother and sister, but have no proof yet. Thanks for your help. Just a good example of the gold mine to be found in my little project: Memoirs of the Miami Valley Vol III, page 379 contains the ONLY indexed (the operative word here !) on a LEACH. It's for David. Checking him out, I discover: David LEACH, res. Degraff; born in Logan Co, 10 Apr 1848, son of Samuel & Janee (HEATH) LEACH, the only other child being a daughter, Elizabeth. NOTE to Khgud: Perhaps your g-g grdm. was Margaret Elizabeth....?. David was educated at the Leach School, so named because it was located on his father's farm....took up farming w/his fatheer, remaining at home until his marriage on 17 Dec 1867 to Emma J BAKER, who d. 16 Sep 1909 leaving two children: Weldon LEACH, b. 5 Sep 1869 & Minnie F. LEACH, b. 29 Sep 1871. Both children are married (no data given). David LEACH m 2) 26 July 1911 to Mrs. Eunice (HUSTON) NORTON. Among personal data: Member of Degraff Methodist Church; lifelong ardent prohibitionist; farmed entire life, retiredd to Degraff; died 23 Feb 1920. No data on the LINE family in Vol III, but since Degraff is close to the Shelby Co line, I checked my "History of Shelby Co, OH": There are LINE families listed in both Perry Twp (Anna OH) & Jackson Twp (Jackson Center, OH). The Perrry Twp has a biog on The Line Family....mentions Stephen, son of Henry C & Elizabeth (MILLHOUSE) LINE, unfortunately, there is no biog on Stephen to see if he is the correct LINE. Suggest further research in Shelby Co - their Gene. Soc. does not belong to OGS but they are very active & Sidney (county seat) has an excellent Genealogy section at the Amos Public Library, including full OH county Census on microfilm. OK, here's my request. Any information on William KENTON (NOT the brother, nephew or whatever of Simon KENTON) who married Sarah COVINGTON. Both came from Queen Anne's Co., MD. William died about 1840 and lived in West Liberty and Zanesfield. He was the father of James and Edward KENTON. James married Bridget TAYLOR. There's also a Solomon KENTON in this mess. He was pretty elusive, but I have proof that he was in Logan Co. at some point. I've been to the Logan Co. Genealogical Society (a great place if you happen to be close), the Logan Co. courthouse and the library. I'm beginning to think they just "planted" dear William in the back forty!
