I am looking for William Washington Williams, supposedly born in Bellefontaine, Logan, Ohio abt 1821. He was married in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1844, and died in 1845, having 1 son George William Williams.
In the May-Summer issue 1995 of the AZ Chapter OGS Newsletter, I published an article titled " THE NAME'S THE SAME - Your ancestors may NOT be where you think they should be". I used as my sources the 1989 "Ohio Atlas & Gazeteer" publ. by DeLorme & the ca 1992 map "Ohio County Maps" publ. by Thomas Publications. Just as Shelby OH is NOT in Shelby County and Franklin OH is NOT in Franklin County, the problem of where a "town" is located can be tricky for Ohio researchers. Two examples: Avondale, OH can be found in Belmont, Hamilton, Logan, Montgomery, Muskingum & Stark Counties . Centerville, OH can be found in Belmont, Brown, Clinton, Gallia & Montgomery Counties. These place names in multiple locations can drive a researcher crazy. I am reprinting this article as a file attachment this week. If anyone would like a file attachment reprint of the article, please send me an email request. Permission to use the attachment for non-profit use is granted, provided attribution is given. If someone is planning a trip to Logan county to do cemetery stompin...stop by the library first and get a detailed county map. Then look in the cemetery listing books, all give locations of the cemeteries and then you can plot your course. Sure made it much easier. I try to do that when I visit any new county, get a county map for help in getting around. Good Luck to all!
Can anyone help me to locate information on my husband's gr.gr.grandfather? I would like to find the obituary and burial place for Thomas COLLINS, who died in 1868. His second wife was Nancy Rock, who died before 1850, most likely in Logan Co.., also. (no information on wife #1) Thomas moved to Logan Co.., near Bellefontaine, in 1832, with his family, and supposedly lived there the rest of his life. His children were: Jacob (m. Jane Keech in Logan Co..), Abner, William (m. Effie Ball), Maria, Sarah, Eliza, Rachel and Hannah (m. George Secrist). Thomas was born in PA. 1785. Sorry I don't have much more information to provide. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Ms. Dale Amann Ms. Dale Amann
Hi everyone, Just a word of warning from someone who spent hours cemetery hunting there. If you plan on a trip there be aware that not all routes intersect with Rt.33. Also there is a cemetery listed on the web site that I need to know how it got it's name if anyone knows. It is called the Vasser Cemetery. Thanks, Joan nks, Joan
I found the following information in a Logan Co deaths 1909-1930 book. I'm not sure if this is my family or not. I would appreciate any information pertaining to this death record (date of birth, spouse etc). Edward Wren, Book 4L, Nov 15, 1923 My Wren family was from the Jackson Center, Shelby Co area. We have been unable to find any information on this family and wonder if they were in the adjoining area in Logan County. Any information is welcome and thanks in advance. --- René Marker mzpatches@surge.net Researching: Marker, Stoll, Diegel, Casey, Wren, Greenlee, McCullough, Taylor, and Dearbaugh (to name a few.....) listmanager: OHAUGLAI-L mailing list, DIEGEL-L mailing list http://www.geocities.com/~mzpatches/index.html

A big THANK YOU to everyone who responded to my question about Iron City. You folks are wonderful. Dale Amann n
Hi Iron City, Oh. is part of the south side of Bellefontaine,Logan Co.Oh. Sorry do not know who you are researching. Dianna
Hi! I am trying to locate information on the death of Clayton Terwilliger, who married Nancy Jane Collins in 1905, probably in Logan Co.. They were in Iron City, OH. in Jan., 1912, when Nancy's brother, John Louis Collins, died. Does anyone know where this town is located? Is anyone familiar with the Terwilliger surname? The Ohio on-line death index does not seem to have a death certificate for a Nancy Terwilliger with a death date of 1922, only one for 1930. Nancy's tombstone at the W. Liberty/Fairview Cemetery in Liberty Twp., Logan Co.., OH says "Nancy Jane Collins 1854-1922" and she is buried with other members of her Collins family. Any ideas? Is the death index wrong, or is the tombstone? Thanks for the assistance. Dale, Try GNIS mapping at <http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html>. It put Iron City, OH, a populated place, in the southern portion of what is now Bellefontaine, Logan Co. OH. When using Ohio Historical Society Death Index be sure to use "wild cards" or other ways of checking the list. This index was scanned in and not every letter was read perfectly by the scanner. Also long names are cut short. I tried pulling up "Nancy" in "Logan County" from "1918-1922". I found this entry: PERWILLINGE NANCY J County Name: LOGAN Date of Death: 3/19/1922 Volume Number: 3834 Certificate Number: 17004 Hope this helps. Lydia Koverman
