Hi Logan Co Researchers, I am new to the mailing list and hoping to find someone researching Mordecai Weeks m Mary E. surname unknown. Daughter, Mary (Polly) F Weeks, 1823 to 1891 m.Romanus Hudson 1849. I have quite a bit on the Hudson line to share. Thanks! Does anyone on the list live near the McCracken Cemetery in Liberty Twp, who could check on a tombstone for me? According to the online inscriptions, there is a "COLLINS", but no other info. is given. If I knew what other graves it is near, this might help me to find my Thomas Collins, who d. in 1868. There is no rush with this request, but I thought if someone was going out that way, they might be able to locate this stone. Thanks a million. Dale

Here's one reason I will never get finished with my family tree: history just arouses my curiosity and I "must know" all the interesting tidbits of history. So---- I was "browsing" through the Logan Co. cemetery inscriptions database today and came across the Piatt Cemetery in Monroe Twp. Since I have never been to Ohio and my husband has "selective amnesia" as regards his childhood years in Ohio, maybe one of you wonderful students of history could enlighten me about the name "Mac-a-cheek" and how William and John Piatt ended up with that middle name. There must be a fascinating story behind this family. Thanks, Dale
Sorry folks but I'm having internet troubles and am unable to check my Juno mail. If I have not replied to you about a look up, please re-send your request to this address as I can access this from the Logan County Library (which is where I am now). Sorry for the inconvenience. I will continue to use this address when my comp works again so please remove the juno address from anything you have saved. Yadilla@juno.com is now Yadilla@hotmail.com again... sorry for the inconvenience. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. What about birth and death numbers? <snip> The batch numbers listed above were for projects to extract marriage information from LDS Family History Library microfilms 0354836, 0354837, and 0354838 covering Logan County marriages 1818-1885 found in volumes A-G of the county marriage records. This data appears in the 1988 edition of the LDS International Genealogical Index which can be used as an index to Logan County marriages for the 1818-1885 time period. Many 19th century marriages in Ohio County records have been added to the IGI in this way so that it is a useful statewide index to search for Ohio marriage information. You can sometimes find that relative who was resident of one county who married in another where you had never thought to look. The IGI is available on microfiche at LDS Family History Centers as well as other larger libraries with genealogical collections. The marriages should also be available online at www.familysearch.org, although the last time I looked at that site a week or two ago, the new marriage search function did not yet appear to work correctly. The LDS Parish and Vital Records List also shows similar extraction projects for Logan County births, 1867-1908, and deaths 1867-1905, as well as marriages for 1885-1920, but indicates that information for these projects does not appear in the IGI. I suspect work on these have projects has never been completed. The Logan County Genealogical Society has been publishing early Logan County birth records in installments in Branches and Twigs, and the early birth and death records are also available on microfilm via interlibrary loan at LDS Family History Centers. While searching the Bellefontaine Examiner for Obituaries I came across 2 for Daniel Antrim in the April 18, 1879 issue. Danial was the first white male child born in Logan County (April 15, 1879) If Daniel is a relative of yours or you would just like to have copies of these obit's let me know.. I'll be glad to share. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Free software, free e-mail, and free Internet access for a month! Just an update on my offer... I'm still willing to look up obits but I discovered something at the library today that changes my offer.. See... from 1871 till approximately 1900 there are no true obituaries, unless it was a county tragedy. Very few deaths are even mentioned as the Examiner was a 3 or 4 page weekly publication. >From about 1900 till about 1910, the Daily Examiner has a few death and funeral notices. After 1910 however, I had no trouble finding the Obits and some are quite lengthy.. So.. I will be happy to look up, for free, any Obituary that might be printed in the Bellefontaine Examiner from 1900 to present. I must have a first and last name and a year, month, AND approximate day of death. If you want more than say... 3 lookups, please provide your home address so I don't have to type them all out over e-mail, I will notify you what I found through e-mail and send the copies through post. And please no apologies for overwhelming me. I haven't gotten many requests at all and it gives me a reason to get away from the house and kids... and I'm stumbling across my own relatives that I don't have dates for! :) ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to where else to look for any info. regarding the death of John DERR, died Jan. 23, 1859, in Logan Co. According to the 1850 census he and his wife, Miriam, were living with his parents, Davis and Martha Johnston DERR, in Richland Dist. 1087. I was in OH awhile back to do a little research in Logan and Hardin counties, and also the State Library in Columbus, but was unable to find anything. I did check the Logan Co. Genealogical Soc. out and they were very helpful but still no success. The parking lot at the Logan Co. Library was being resurfaced on the day I had allotted for research there and being a Sat. the court house wasn't open...such a sad tale, huh? But I did manage to find the Dairy Queen so all was not lost! Anybody have any idea where to look? Thanks in advance. Nancy in MN

Hello all.... I was just thinking... I do so many look ups in the old Bellefontaine Examiners on Microfilm at the county Library that I should just advertise.... Free look-ups. If you provide a name and death date (I must have a year, month, and at least an approximate day) I will be happy to look up any Obituray and type it out to send over e-mail. (if it gives internment info I can look for the grave for you too) This is ONLY for Bellefontaine Examiner Obituaries between 1871 and 1998. If you would like a copy of an obit that may appear there let me know and I'll be happy to look it up for you. In the county where I was raised, here in California, although records do not officially begin until 1905, there are various birth, marriage, death, property and other records that go back at least 20 years before that (although they are sketchy at times). So, I was wondering if it was possible, that although officially there are no birth and death records in Logan Co. before 1867, is it possible that some were recorded earlier? I am specifically trying to locate the following: SHEPHERD, Helena Ella, d/o William Shepherd and Rachel Caroline Austin Asher Shepherd b. 3 Aug 1855, E. Liberty Twp, Logan Co. Thanks for the help. Dale
I will be sending off for some b., m., and d. certificates to Bellefontaine in the morning. How much does the Probate Ct. charge? What does the tax collector/assessor charge for information regarding property and tax rolls? Thanks for the help. Dale
