I am interested in the following couple, who were married in Logan county on 4 July 1822: James Smith - Mary Ann Taylor They later moved to Hale township, Hardin county. After years of searching, I finally found proof for the parents of James Smith [they were John and Rebeckah (Carrick) Smith, of Bath co., VA, later of Logan county], but the parentage of Mary Anne Taylor has remained elusive. All I know of the origin of Mary Ann Taylor is that she was born in Virginia on 7 Oct 1804, and that she had a brother named William. Can any Taylor researchers out there help me? Stewart Baldwin
I am searching for information regarding Joseph H. Sharp or Julia Emma Bishop. Joseph was born in MD? 1826 was married in Logan Co. 1849 to Julia. Julia was born in Logan Co in 1830. I do not have any information regarding either persons' parents. They probably lived in Zane township.
Hello Logan, OH Rooters, Finally pinned down my suspected GGGGgrandfather. He was George Henry BLAYLOCK (or BLALOCK). Was in Logan County in 1828 based upon a copy of an application for pension he signed on 15 May of 1828. He says he resides in Bellefontaine. I have copies of the various forms and letters he submitted to the Treasury Department for Revolutionary War Claims, and even a statement signed by the Secretary of the Treasury, Samuel D. Engrahm. But nothing else, except a "rumor" that his wife's name was Nancy. Not much to go on, huh? Any Logan rooters with info on George Henry BLAYLOCK (BLALOCK), please give me a buzz. I'll gladly share any info I have on his descendants, assuming they are his. Thanx in advance....Gary BLAYLOCK
Hi folks, I am looking for the parents of DANIEL JOSEPH PRESTON. Daniel was born in Logan County on 6/Apr/1852. In the 1870 census for Logan County at age 18 he is found living with the family of Andrew Bodie. He married Willamina Stephens in Van Wert County in 1879. Any clue to the names of Daniel's parents would be greatly appreciated:-) Thank you. Ruth Hall Home Page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/6431/

On the subject of early wills and obits, it sounds like the place to go is the Logan County Genealogical Society. Also, I have been looking at 2 items that have info on some of the families that ended up in the Logan co. area. 1. Earle Greene Family History and Allied Families: includes Williams, Ballinger etc. 2. Register of Early Friends at New Garden, NC: Williams, Hiatt and others. I think some of these people ended up in Logan and Champaign counties. I found these in my local Family History Center Library catalog.
On the subject of wills and obits here is the response I received: ---------- > From: Edith Eads <efeads@logan.net> > To: timorlie@earthlink.com > Subject: wills & obits > Date: Saturday, January 17, 1998 10:11 AM > > Hi Susan, > > The books containing pre 1850 wills and estates are housed in our genealogy > library and we have an index. We also have all the early Logan county > newspapers on microfilm and abstracted. However, the mid 1800s are pretty > early to find many obits. Does anybody know of a source for early Logan wills, those prior to 1851? Also, does any body know of a good source of mid 1800 obits for the Logan area? Please reply to Susan Orlie e-mail: timorlie@earthlink.com
Just a reminder. Our next meeting is next Wednesday, January 21st @ 1PM. Ethel Buchenroth will tell us about her recent trip to Italy. Hope to see you there.
Here is the all the Blalock info I have, but will forward the Blalock info that has been posted onto the source of this, and see if he can connect anything: (Note: I spelled her name incorrectly previously-- it is Jemina) "Elijah Cox who was b in VA and d Dec 1844 in Linn Co IA narrued JEMINA BLALOCK on 11 Nov 1830 in Mongomery Co. IN. She was born 8 Jan 1812 in Greene Co OH. Jemina married second John (Carney) Kearney on 19 Mar 1847 in Linn Co., IA He was born sometime in 1797 in the state of PA as noted in the 1850 IA census. He was 15 yrs older than her. It is not known if had a previous wife or any children by a first wife. He was a farmer in Linn Co.,IA. Jemina and her 2nd husband John Kearney were listed in the 1850 census for Linn Co., IA with her children from her first marriage and the two sons from her second marriage. Thye could not be found in the 1860 census for Linn Co., IA Her parents were Brewer Blalock and Elizabeth Kennedy." (The Cox family mentioned above was around Logan Co., from 1810/11 to 1822.
Ok, once I saw the Jemima Blaylock name I knew my line was starting to connect. I dug out some stuff that I just haven't had time to go through. Here is some of the Blaylock/Blalock/Blalack's I have: My family seems to have used the BLALOCK spelling most of the time with a few BLALACKs. My boss's family however has these same people listed with the spelling BLALACK! I do know they started out as BLAYLOCK though. 1-George Washington Blaylock b. 30 May 1825 m. Elizabeth McKenny 2-George Washington Blaylock (son of #1) m. Syntha Starr 14 Sep 1846, Green Co.OH 3-Minerva Blalock m. Joseph Beason 3-Caroline Blalock m. m. John Bailey 3-Rozetta Blalock m. Milburn Baty 3-Orange Blalock m. Iona Bathomley 3-Sophrona Blalock m. Ephriam Houser 3-Jemima (Jennie) Blalock m. Ephriam Houser (not a typo married his sister-in-law after wife died) 3-Celia Ann Blalock (my line!) m. Jame Lewis MANSON 3-Edward Blalock m. Isabelle BARD (my boss's line!) 3-Oliver Blalock m. Christina CECIL 3- Lois Blalock (died at age 10) I have more if anyone is interested and the name of a researcher who probably know's much more about this than I do!. I see several Jemima's but not married to a COX ...yet (but it's probably in there somewhere. Just need to go back further!). Is the George Washington Blaylock/Blalock/Blalack? Or perhaps his father? (I don't have my dates handy right now!) I believe this might me the one I am also looking for but I don't have any info on him (although if I dig through my pile there just may be something hiding there!) Hello to all Logan Co. OH searchers. My name is Linda Norman Carroll, and I am looking for the family of George W. and Sarah TAYLOR, who located in the early 1830's in Logan Co. OH, near Lakeview area. They came from Washington Co. PA with their children remaining at home. Their son, James TAYLOR and wife Nancy SMITH left Washington Co. PA about 1839 with their children and also settled in Logan Co. Frederick Smith TAYLOR, son of James and Nancy was my gggrandfather. If these names ring a bell with anyone, I'd love to hear from you. I have quite a bit of information on the family from George W. Taylor down to present time, but have not been able to decipher who George's parents were. Thanks for your time.
