    2. Lori Samples/Bill Tworek
    3. I am looking for help???? I need to find any record of Thomas J. Davis in Logan County, Ohio. According to his obituary, Thomas J. Davis was born July 7, 1841 at West Liberty, Ohio, so I am assuming Logan County. I understand that this is on a county line, though. He left the state of Ohio in 1866. He left Ohio unmarried, later marrying Susan J. Harper, also from Ohio. I don't have access to census records or other materials, and I would really appreciate any help you can offer me.... my goal is to find Thomas J. Davis' parents names. Thanks in advance for any help! Lori

    1. [OHLOGAN-L] Spam on the OHLOGAN Discussion List
    2. Bremer,Robert
    3. Apologies to everyone for the smutty spam that made its way through to the OHLOGAN discussion list. The people at rootsweb.com have been working on some measures to prevent spam from being sent through to the various discussion lists which they host. I have seen cases where their efforts have worked, although that did not include this recent case. No doubt, it's impossible to be 100% effective in blocking all spam. One of the OHLOGAN subscribers suggested changing this list to a closed list wherein you must be a subscriber to actually post messages. That is something I can actually do, and it seems reasonable to me that if you have something to post on this list regarding genealogy in Logan County, Ohio, then you ought to be a subscriber to the list. So, I have adjusted the list profile in that way. Hopefully this might reduce the possibility of future spam messages. Again, sorry for the inappropriate messages. 1. Logan Co OH--->Kansas Legislature
    2. Bill Sowers
    3. Hello Logan County researchers... I work at the State Library of Kansas in Topeka. Currently we are putting together an Internet project listing every person who has ever served in the Kansas Legislature. We have all the names up... about 10,000... and now are going back adding information as we find it from various Kansas biographical sources. Today I came across the following biography of a Kansas legislator that I thought someone researching in Logan County might be interested in. It comes from a book called: History of the State of Kansas, by William G. Cutler, first published in 1883 by A. T. Andreas, Chicago, IL. This biography comes from the Shawnee County section of the history... which happens to be where I live. If anyone out there is interested in this gentleman let me know. I am related to the Mitchell family through marriage. My cousin, George Orr DAY b May 4, 1829 in Licking County, OH. d 1913. buried in Rushsylvania Cem., Logan Co., OH., married Hannah MITCHELL b ca 1829. m Sept. 20, 1851 in Logan County, OH. d 1921. buried in Rushsylvania Cem., Logan Co., OH. (Dau of David Mitchell and Nancy Aiken). Also Mary Ellen DAY b ca 1836 in Ohio married John MITCHELL b Oct. 27, 1837 in OH. Both from Rushsylvania. These Mitchell's are probably related to the Mitchell below from the Cutler history: Cutler's History of Kansas, 1883--- Shawnee County M. R. MITCHELL, M. D., physician and surgeon, was born in Rush Creek Township, Logan Co., Ohio, November 10, 1835. He was educated in the public schools of his native county, and in Jefferson College, at Cannonsburg, Pa., graduating from the latter institution in 1862. In September of the same year, he enlisted in Company B, Eighty-eighth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in which he served eighteen months, being subsequently commissioned First Lieutenant of the Twenty-seventh United States Colored Troops. After serving in that capacity about eight months he was promoted Captain, and three months before the close of the war, raised to the rank of Major. He received a wound in the face before Petersburg, Va., shortly after the Burnside mine explosion, and was taken to the Officers' Hospital in New York. He was then in Ohio a short time, before returning to his regiment, being absent in all, about two months. In October, 1865, he returned to Ohio, and commenced the study of medicine at Bellefontaine, and in March, 1868, graduated from the Ohio Medical College at Cincinnati. Dr. Mitchell was married at Bellefontaine, March 10, 1868, to Mary M. Fulton, of Rushsylvania, Logan Co., Ohio. They have two children, Porter M. and Clara. Immediately after his marriage, he came to Kansas and located at Leavenworth, where he remained ten months. He then removed to Fairmount, in the same county, and there remained until 1875. In January of that year he went to Topeka as a member of the State Legislature, and in June of the same year permanently settled there. He is a member of the State Medical Society, of the Eastern District Society, and of the Academy of Medicine and Surgery, being one of the charter members of the latter society. Dr. Mitchell is a member of the G. A. R., and also an exemplary member of the Presbyterian Church. ------------------------------------------ Bill and Diana Sowers - wrs@kspress.com - 1746 Fairmont Rd, Topeka, KS 66604 check out our SCHREMMER-POLLOCK families page at: http://www.kspress.com/wrs/index.htm

    2. Cw mom 4
    3. Hi, I am new to the list, just signed on. I am looking for information on my gggg grandparents: Moses and Rachel Inskeep DeVore. I have a small amount of info I found at the Union County Genealogical Society: Moses b 1810, Rachel b 1813. No ideas yet on who their parents were. I know for a fact that they had one daughter Margaret, b 1844 who married Ezra Tallman. According to the Union Co Gen Soc information, they had the following children: James W. b 1833, Joshua N. b 1835, Hester A. b 1837, Mary Jane b 1840, John M. b 1842, Elizabeth A. b 1846, Aaron W. b 1849 and Happy (?) b 1851. I just recently became aware of Margarets maiden name when I got her death certificate. Then I checked at Union county and got the above info. But have yet to get to a place where I can check census records and etc. If anyone has any information on this family, I would love to hear from you. Please email me at Cwmom4@aol.com Thanks, Vicky Burns
