    1. Re: [OHLICKIN] Names of roads - School Lane/Land

    3. A study of any old map of Licking County will contain names that are no longer in use, as well as roads that no longer exist. The Licking County Commissioners changed many of them in the 1970's so the current name may not represent what they were called in the 19th and early 20th century. Old records of place names should be sought out to verify locations and original spellings. I never heard the church referred to as anything other than "School Land" until the renaming. In fact, I do not recall the name applied to the road, if any. The 1875 Historical Atlas of Licking County Ohio does not show a name. There is a symbol for a church where I remember it to be when we attended there in 1938 - 1941. I do not know if the church was built on land that was originally set aside in every township for either educational or ministerial purposes or not. The State of Ohio set aside land in townships for both school and ministerial purposes. See: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~maggie/ohio-lands/ohl5.html Also see: http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/501 As shown, the most recent change to the school land laws was: "The board of education of each school district shall have general charge of and supervision over the lands appropriated by congress for the support of schools and ministerial purposes that have been allocated for the benefit of that school district. Effective Date: 06-29-1988"
