    3. Dates for 2008 Licking County Bicentennial Events - (Updated 1/13/08) Bicentennial Legacy Quilt Unveiling - The Works - January 30th, 2008 - 6:00pm till 8:00pm. This event coincides with the date of the founding of Licking County in 1808. On display will be six historic quilts from across Licking County as well as the unveiling of the 'legacy' Bicentennial Quilt crafted by some 35 local stitchers and quilters. Brief presentations on local history and the historic quilts will be given. This is a free event at the works, and refreshments will be served. Celebration of Agriculture - March 20th, 2008 - 7:00am-9:00am at The Reese Center on the OSUN-COTC Campus - Sponsored by the OSU Cooperative Extension Service, the Soil and Water Conservation District and the Bicentennial Commission - This event will honor Century (100 year plus) Family Farms in Licking County. The event also features the induction of new members into the County Agricultural Hall of Fame. Licking County Bicentennial Lecture Series at The Works (free admission). Sunday, February 17th, 2:00pm - Jim Lukens - "Johnny Clerm: Drummer Boy of Chickamauga, Local Hero" Sunday, March 16th, 2:00pm - Aaron Keirns - "Flint, Guns & Cigars: A look at Licking County's Early Industries" Sunday, April 13th, 2:00pm- Connie Rutter & Sondra Brockway Gartner - "A presentation about their new book Images of America/Licking County, with a showing of additional historical photos." (Books will be available for sale with the authors signing them). Newark Earthworks Day - Moundbuilders State Memorial- May 3rd - Programs at the Newark Campus and Moundbuilders State Memorial in Heath. This international event will draw visitors from across the US and Mexico to compare Central Ohio Earthworks with Stonehenge and the pyramids of Teotihuacan. A number of presentations are planned for the Newark Campus, followed by the official reopening of the Museum at Moundbuilders State Memorial. A highlight will be a presentation by Aztec Dancers at the Museum at the Great Circle Mound in the Park on Hebron Road. Bicentennial Pioneer Days (Spring) - Joint Licking and Knox County Counties Bicentennial Celebration - May 17th - at 4-H Camp Ohio. A wide variety of family oriented outdoor activities are planned. U.S. Route 40/Historic National Road Cruise-In Event - May 28th-June 1st, - In conjunction with the annual National Road Yard Sale. A cruise-in featuring historic automobiles is planned. Bicentennial Community Art Celebration - The Works in downtown Newark - Saturday, August 2nd *Bicentennial Art Show in the Art Works Gallery (featured throughout August) *In the Works Courtyard from 10:00am till 4:00pm Celebration of local art and artists. Hartford Fair Joint Celebration - August 3rd-9th - County Bicentennial and Fair Sesquicentennial joint celebration. Bicentennial Pioneer Days (Fall) - Joint Licking and Knox County Counties Bicentennial Celebration - September 13th - at 4-H Camp Ohio. A wide variety of family oriented outdoor activities are planned. Flint Ridge Knap-In - August 29th, 30th and 31st from 9:00am-5:00pm daily at Flint Ridge State Memorial. Sponsored by the Flint Ridge Lithic Society, this historic/educational event draws artisans from across the nation to Licking County. The skilled craftsmen will be fashioning projectile point from flint and tools from stone, with flint knapping demonstrations. The Ohio Atlatl Association will also be featured with demonstrations. A parking charge of $5 per car will take place, as will an auction on Saturday of the show at the Flint Ridge Shelter House. Midland Theatre - Symphony Concert - October 2008 (TBA) Other Bicentennial Projects - Not Date Specific.
