Does anyone out there have answers to these questions, Dan Fleming is compiling a Licking County History book for the Bicentennial celebration this year and needs help with these questions, We will be most grateful for anything you could supply. thanks in advance, Nola Rogers Subject: S.O.S. OK, I have some holes to fill for the book, so I am going to start sending out some questions to see if any of you know the answers. I have tried all my resources with no luck on these. Guesses don't count, but they might be good leads. 1. What is Bennington Twp. named after? 2. What is Fallsbury Twp. named after? And why is it Fallsbury Twp. instead of Fallsburg? 3. What was Lima Twp. named after? 4. Why was Union Twp. named that in 1808? 5. What was the story behind the Runaway School in Bennington Twp.? 6. Do you know anything on Rainrock being used by camps and church groups (Eden Twp.)? 7. Which church in Hartford Twp. was moved to the Hartford Fairgrounds, and where from? 8. Ever hear of Harvest Church in Liberty Twp? 9. ANYTHING on Fursville, Martha! It seems to have gotten lost in time. And why is it still on the map? 10. Did the Yellow School in Washington Twp. ever get moved? Ten is a nice round number. Any ideas on these things? Thanks, Dan Please reply to Dan at----------- tallhorse@windstream.net
I can help with a couple of questions: No. 5. Runaway School - My understanding is that there was a dispute about the school, and one group of people actually physically moved the building to a different location. I'll see if I can find out more on that. We have an annual Bennington Township School's Reunion the 4th Sunday in September. We still have a few attendees who went to the one-room schools, although none from Runaway currently. No. 7. Church in Hartford township - It was called "School Land Church" and was located on what is now called "School Lane Road". My family attended there in the late 1930's. An addition was made to the church prior to the move to the fairgrounds. I have an 1875 Historical Atlas of Licking County Ohio. There should be copies available elsewhere, perhaps the library. In response to question No. 8 - Harvest church in Liberty township: there is a church symbol on the 1875 map at New Way, at the crossroads of what is today Sportsman Club Road and Louden St. No name is given. There is another church symbol where the present Liberty United Methodist church is located. There are two other symbols near Concord, again no names given.
