Your nearest LDS Family History Center should be able to help you locate the source material that is reflected in the IGI (International Genealogical Index) data reflected on the web site. In addition, the Ancestral File referenced, AFN: 8VJG-XG, may provide valuable additional data. In fact, if you click on the "Details" tab on http://familysearch.org/Search/af/ancestral_file_frame.asp?recid=7196848, you will see the name and address of the person who submitted the File. And the "Family" and "Pedigree" tabs give additional information that should be helpful. To locate the nearest Family History Center, see http://www.lds.org/en/2_How_Do_I_Begin/4_Where_is.html . Each Center is staffed by helpful volunteers, and while you cannot expect them to do your research, I have found that they are always willing and eager to help you make use of the resources available at each Center, or on loan from Salt Lake City. By the way, even if there had been no fire to destroy the records, it is unlikely civil records would exist for a birth as early as 1818. Most likely the IGI and Ancestral File data have come from other sources such as church records.
