Wood Family of New York City and then Ontario Canada Almost all the Wood searching on the list so far has been in the southern states and a bit in New Jersey, however, I am looking for information on parents and siblings of Capt. John Wood born in New York City, Kings Co, NY about 1739 to John Wood and Cynthia Winter(s). I don't know if he lived in Orange Co at the time he was in the militia or not. My John Wood was a Capt. in the Orange Co. Militia under Col. Wm. Allison and was captured and taken prisoner on 20 July 1779. He was taken and held in a dungeon in Quebec for 4 years until released on 20 June 1783, arriving home in New York on 31 July 1783. John married Rebecca Cain and they moved from New York to Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada sometime in the 1790s. John died in Leeds Co, Ontario on 1806. I am trying to find information on his parents, his siblings, and also his children, most of whom were born in Canada.
