Rutledge, 58, the past year owner of the Campbell farm south of Granville, on the Lancaster road, died suddenly Friday night (1 Dec 1928) at 9:45. Death was attributed to apoplexy. He, with his family, had resided on the farm Bryn Mawr, since its purchase and in that short time had made many friends in Granville. He had moved to the farm about a year ago, and although he made his home there, he had maintained active business connections in Zanesville where he had lived almost his entire life. He is survived by his wife, a son Frank B. Jr., and his mother, Mrs. Mary Rutledge, all of the home; also, an adopted daughter, Miss Virginia of Zanesville. Mr. Rutledge was a member of Grace M. E. church, Zanesville, and was actively associated with the affairs of the church and its various societies. His views on religious topics were respected by all his acquaintances. Frank Bernard Rutledge was born in Zanesville August 19, 1870, a son of William Hewitt and Mary Neely Rutledge. Frank B. Rutledge acquired an early education in the Zanesville public schools whereupon he entered Ohio Wesleyan university at Delaware, and there mastered higher courses of study. He entered the field of active work as assistant cashier in the Zanesville freight office of the Pennsylvania railroad and later accepted a position with the W. C. Townsend company, Zanesville wholesale dealers in marble and granite. Still later he became associated with his father in the carpet business and when he assumed control was well prepared by knowledge, experience and business training to give a progressive development. Since 1891 he had been engaged with marked success with storage quarters in the Memorial building. He had been a lifelong resident of Zanesville. Mr. Rutledge was intimately, associated with two Zanesville banks, the Peoples Savings Bank and the Guardian Savings and Trust company, both of which he served as a director. Mr. Rutledge was united in marriage to Miss Lillian A. Davis, daughter of George W. Davis, who for about three years, ending in 1891 was the Pennsylvania company's division freight agent, with residence in Zanesville. Mrs. Rutledge died, leaving a daughter, Mary Virginia, whom they had adopted. For his second wife, Mr. Rutledge married Miss Eleanor Dreibelbis, and they had a son, Frank B. Jr. The parents were active members of Grace M. E. church. He was vice-president of Bethesda hospital. Among other worthy local institutions none appealed to him with greater force than the Young Men's Christian Association of which he was president for a number of years, relinquishing this position when he moved from the city. The funeral was held Monday morning at the home south of Granville. Rev. F. B. McIntosh officiating, assisted by Rev. T. T. Crawford, formerly of Zanesville, now of Columbus. The body was taken for burial in Woodlawn cemetery, Rev. J. M. Shimer of Grace M.E. church conducted brief services at the grave. Twenty-five pupils of Union school, classmates of Frank B. Rutledge, Jr., attended the services of their friend's father. Funeral director, J. K. Morrow. The Granville Times, published Granville, Ohio Thursday, December 6, 1928
