But I find the topic interesting and I have a question also. All in my family, that might know are now deceased. I do not know if this is a true story and it has never been verified. A cousin told me a few yrs. ago that our grandmother, Fern Lily McGee Burrier told him that a "Grandmother", he does not remember if it was a grandmother to Fern or a great grandmother. Also has no idea if the "grandmother" was young or old when this reportly was going on. She told him that this "grandmother" helped the runaway slaves at the old Mansion in Trinway, Ohio. That she took them down to a underground room and when it was dark they would go through a tunnel to the river. Fern's parents were David F. McGee (1871-1838) who married Evaline Mathews. His father was also a David McGee who married Lavina Squires (1849-1910) and his father was John McGee who married Sarah Bainter (1819-1861). Sarah's grandfather was a John Cullins (1758-1837). John's father was James McGee who married Honor Dorsey (1794-1844) and her mother was Jemima Gist. I am only tossing these names out here in case someone has any information at all on this topic with my family. Also any information on the family would be appreciated. I was able to contact the present owner of the mansion. He advised that Mr. Adams (I think I am remembering the right name) was a abolitionist so it was possible that the story is true. The owner also remembers that there was a tie with the Adams and Bainter families. Not related family wise though. Adams I think was originally from Va. Squires family also ties into VA at one point. It would be thrilling to verify this family story. Susan Burrier Snyder [email protected]
