Surnames: BROWN, FLEMING, HINTON, PARNELL, COLVILLE Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DZB.2ACI/2530 Message Board Post: Mr. Archibald Wilson Brown, one of Licking county's oldest and best citizens, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lucy E. Fleming, No. 252 West Church street, last Thursday morning at 12:30 o'clock. The immediate cause of his death was stomach disease. The funeral took place last Saturday morning, at ten o'clock from the residence of Mrs. Lucy E. Fleming and the interment was in Hanover cemetery. The deceased was an active member of New Home Lodge, No. 338, F. & A. M. and the funeral was under the auspices of that body. Mr. Brown was born in Farquhar county, Virginia, August 29, 1807, and was aged 81 years, 5 months and 27 days at the time of his death. In 1826, he moved to Ohio, settling first near West Carlisle, Coshocton county, where he lived about a year. He then moved to Perry township, Licking county, where he lived ever since, till the death of his wife in 1882, when he moved to Newark. In 1830, he was married to Miss Rebecca Hinton of Perry township, who was the mother of his children, until her death in September 1882 - a period of 53 years. Three children were the fruit of this union, all of whom are living in this city, viz: Mrs. J. S.(Mary Frances) Parnell, Dr. Endymion S. Brown, and Mrs Lucy E. Fleming. Mr. Brown's last marriage was to Mrs. Lucinda Colville, who died in October 1887. In 1883, Mr. Brown joined the M. E. church and has remained an active and consistent member ever since. He was a thoroughly honest man, of an unusual degree of intelligence, and had by his industry amassed quite a competence. A good citizen, an enthusiastic Democrat and a kind and loving husband and father, he has been gathered, like a shock of corn fully ripe, to his fathers. Peace to his ashes and honor to his memory!
