Would any of you Licking Co. researchers happen to have a copy of one of the early (latter 1800's) county histories? I am hoping to find some clues about JOHN CROSS & MARGARET BOWERS, who were said to have been "pioneers" of the county. I have uncovered incorrect data at FamilySearch (in Ancestral File) implying that John was the son of Rueben and Esther (MILES) CROSS of NY. Rueben's Rev. War pension file gives much genealogical data, and clearly locates his son in NY state. The John CROSS of Licking Co. (early 1800's Censuses) was of a significantly different age than the NY John. I do not know how the original submitter to Ancestral File confused the two Johns, although "John Cross" is one of those all-too-common names. Arrgh! The harder I look, the more my "tree" unravels. Be extremely cautious with data from FamilySearch. The more time I spend there, the more obvious conflicts I find. I suspect there are a great many corrupted family trees floating around. Good luck to all, Tom Osborn Calif.
