Tom - This is very good advice to newcomers to genealogy of the corrupted genealogies, not only on family search, but all postings. A contributor to familysearch lists David as the son of my husband's 3rd gr gf. George. I assume they reached that conclusion because David and George are both buried in the same small cemetery. Had this person researched the estate settlement for George, they would not have found David. David was David Jr, a nephew of George, whose father had died in the county from which the families came, and in which David Sr's estate settlement would have provided the correct info. Another corruption that I just recently uncovered. Someone had posted 9 children of my gr gr uncle. I assume the researcher had obtained this information from the several deeds pertaining to the sale of his land by the heirs and came up with the nine names (nine signers + spouses). However, there was references in the deeds to heirs 1/8 share indicating 8 probable children, but one said it was her "dower right". She was the WIDOW, who had remarrid, and for which a marriage record has been found in the state from whence the family had migrated. Another similar corruption was found in two old large genealogies which has been often quoted. They list Lydia Jones as a daughter of my 4th gr gf. John Smith) in Virginia. I had no reason to believe otherwise as I had found her marriage record to George Jones, however, I always like to look at marriage bonds. Was I shocked to see it said "Lydia Smith, widow of Peter Smith". Newcomers need all the informative help they can get and not believe everything they read is carved in stone. Of course everything carved in stone is not always accurate. My grandmothers tombstone says 1849-1929. Her will was probated in 1928!!! I didn't mean this to be so lenghthy, but u no how genealogists like to ramble on. GraveNews2@aol.com in Indiana
