The Columbus Metropolitan Library, 96 S. Grant Avenue, is hosting Family History Day, on Saturday, October 22, an entire day dedicated to getting started on or supplementing your family heritage search. Theyve invited six local genealogy organizations and planned informative sessions for every age and interest. They even have great genealogy software packages as door prizes. In the morning, various Central Ohio genealogy organizations will display materials and give a 10-minute overview of special resources and services. In the afternoon, various interesting workshops will be offered. The workshops are free but registration is required by calling the Biography History and Travel Division at 849-1249. The afternoon workshops include: 1-2:30 p.m. sessions African-American Genealogy for Beginners Using African-American Chronologies, atlases and local histories to trace your family and find ancestors. Genealogy Research on the 'Net Learn about some of the most popular genealogy websites and how the can help you with your research. Newspaper Research for Genealogists This class will cover vital statistics announcements as well as legal notices, estate, land and tax information and local history. How to Uncover Your House History Learn which sources are the most helpful in researching your houses history and its past occupants. 3-4:30 p.m. sessions Untapped African-American Sources Biographical Directories Trace your family and find ancestors using various helpful resources that are readily available. Public Records: the Inside Scoop Learn how to use public records to answer your genealogy and history questions. Migration to Ohio Before 1850 Understand the many factors affected our ancestors early migratory movements into Ohio, "the Gateway to the West."
