    2. In stating that the Hartford Fairgrounds Church once stood on School Lane Rd. I was relating what was told me by an elderly neighbor when we moved into our house twelve years ago. I haven't done any extensive research to prove that and the lady has since passed away. It is possible that she was mistaken. But there is a School Lane Rd. near the Hartford Fairgrounds. 3. Yes, School Lane Road is in the very north-western corner of Hartford Township (and also Licking County) The church originally sat west of Downing Road, and east of the county line (Delaware) and on the north side of what is now called School Lane Road. I think that it was a Cristian Union denomination church. The Hartford Fair has a picture of it on their web page under "Facilities" http://www.hartfordfair.com/fclts.htm and it is labeled "School Land Church." I have requested more information from the Fair office, and they should have the date that it was moved. There is a date on the sign in the picture but I can't read it on my computer screen. 3. I have an 1875 Historical Atlas of Licking County Ohio. There should be copies available elsewhere, perhaps the library. In response to question No. 8 - Harvest church in Liberty township: there is a church symbol on the 1875 map at New Way, at the crossroads of what is today Sportsman Club Road and Louden St. No name is given. There is another church symbol where the present Liberty United Methodist church is located. There are two other symbols near Concord, again no names given. 1. Re: [OHLICKIN] Names of roads - School Lane/Land
    2. Leland & Dorothy Hubbell
    3. A study of any old map of Licking County will contain names that are no longer in use, as well as roads that no longer exist. The Licking County Commissioners changed many of them in the 1970's so the current name may not represent what they were called in the 19th and early 20th century. Old records of place names should be sought out to verify locations and original spellings. I never heard the church referred to as anything other than "School Land" until the renaming. In fact, I do not recall the name applied to the road, if any. The 1875 Historical Atlas of Licking County Ohio does not show a name. There is a symbol for a church where I remember it to be when we attended there in 1938 - 1941. I do not know if the church was built on land that was originally set aside in every township for either educational or ministerial purposes or not. The State of Ohio set aside land in townships for both school and ministerial purposes. See: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~maggie/ohio-lands/ohl5.html Also see: http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/501 As shown, the most recent change to the school land laws was: "The board of education of each school district shall have general charge of and supervision over the lands appropriated by congress for the support of schools and ministerial purposes that have been allocated for the benefit of that school district. Effective Date: 06-29-1988"

    2. The Hartford Fairgrounds Church used to be located on School Lane Rd between County Line Rd. and Downing Rd. There is a tall, old tree close by the road and in front of a white, one story house, that is where the church used to stand. As far as I know the church was called School Lane Church. Good luck with your book, sounds interesting! 3. I can help with a couple of questions: No. 5. Runaway School - My understanding is that there was a dispute about the school, and one group of people actually physically moved the building to a different location. I'll see if I can find out more on that. We have an annual Bennington Township School's Reunion the 4th Sunday in September. We still have a few attendees who went to the one-room schools, although none from Runaway currently. No. 7. Church in Hartford township - It was called "School Land Church" and was located on what is now called "School Lane Road". My family attended there in the late 1930's. An addition was made to the church prior to the move to the fairgrounds.
