    1. [OHLICKIN] Licking County obituary
    2. Gary Steiner
    3. I am looking for some research advice. I am trying to find an obituary for Peter James Gallagher who died in Licking County on 29 OCT 1980. What would be the most likely newspaper for an obituary to appear, and where could I find copies of same? Ideally I'm also looking for a library or historical society that might have a lookup service, since I live in Oregon. Thanks in advance, Gary Steiner

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: 2mobucks Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.licking/4594/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for Cassius Benjamin GHEEN. He was born 7 Apr 1873 in Windsor Twp to David and Elizabeth Gheen. He married Eva FORD and had 2 daughters, Gertrude PORTS and Elizabeth BRADLEY. Eva filed for divorce, listing unknown address of Cassius, January 1911 according to newspaper article from Newark. The last census I found Cassius listed is 1910 living with Eva's family in Licking county. Both of his daughters died shortly after their marriages. Elizabeth died in 1928 and her obit lists Cassius as the father, not as a living family member. I want to find out if he came back to Morgan County or stayed in Licking and what cemetery he is in. Thank you Katreana Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I don't know how much you know about the famiy, but he was the son of Allen Evans and Rebecca Cayton. Allen was the son of John and Emilie Evans and John was the son of George & Dorcas. I have something like 55 descendents of George. BTW, I'm not related to this line, but I collect info on all Evanses, Millers and Clarks in Licking county where the family arrived before 1900. Since George was in Washington Twp., in 1820 this family certainly counts. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. There is a Shannon family from Washington Co., Pa. who intermarried with a Finney family in Licking Co., Ohio. I know there is Shannon's in Belmont Co., Ohio who are also from Washington Co., Pa.-one of their sons was a first native born Governor of Ohio (Wilson Shannon). I don't know about the Finney's of Belmont Co., and have never linked them with the Licking Co., Ohio ones, nor the Shannon's either but my husband descends from both Shannon lines from Licking Co., Ohio and Belmont Co., Ohio. I am sure there is plenty of info in the Licking Co. Genealogy society on the Shannon-Finney lines. 3. Greetings, I would like to thank everyone who replied to my initial posting. I appreciate all of your efforts as this trip to Ohio is very important to me. I tried to reply to each response personally and if there is anyone I missed, please forgive me. I had forgotten to mention in my post that I had read that the Finney family migrated with the Murphy and McFadden families from PA to Belmont County Ohio. I have not been able to confirm that my Finney's were included in this migration but when my brick wall ancestor and his spouse passed away (Isaac B. and Rachel Finney) my great grandfather lived with the McFaddens and the rest of the minor children were taken in by Josiah Murphy and the guardianship bond were paid by a Benjamin Murphy, all of Tuscarawas County Ohio. I would like to learn more about this "Clans" migration. I have found through my research that Isaac and Rachel were friends with the Robert and Margaret Berkshire, William and Mahala Fillabaum, John and Elizabeth Daughtery, Benjamin and Elizabeth Van Fossen, James and Ann Moore, and Eliza Brown. Thanks again to all of you - I wish I could hug you all. Gerald Finney Fresno, California

3. http://www.heritagepursuit.com/ This site may help you. In the searach engine DeWeese comes up and Ward but I didn't take time to search for your couple. I didn't get only a few surnames that began with W and none with D. as I was searching for Martin and Vail. Apparently not all marriage records were destroyed but they told me the one I was searching for was. Here is the place to write: The Licking County Genealogical Society 101 West Main Street Newark, Ohio 43055-5054 740-349-5510 At the time I contacted them these were their hours 1-4 p.m. Tues. We. Thurs. Sat. Hope this helps somewhat.
