    1. Marriage Records
    2. Hi All, I would like to find a marriage for my ggrand parents who were married in Licking County, probably around 1831. I have the marriage book produced by the Licking County Genealogy Society in 1984, but it does not contain the information on James CUMMINS and Mary DICKINSON. The introduction to the book states that three marriage record books covering the period 1808-1829 were not destroyed in the court house fire of 1875, but there was no book for the 1829-1839 period. They surmise that this book was destroyed in the fire. I wrote a similar book on naturalizations for my county in California. While I was taking my inventory of all the books available at the county Recorder's Office, I found that three were missing from the set. I put out the word to the County Recorder and various other department heads in the county and within a few months all the "missing" books were found. The records are now complete starting with the date the county was formed. I am wondering whether the 1829-1839 marriage book may have been found since the LCGS wrote their book in 1984. Does anyone know if this is the case? Thank you for your help. Ken Tessendorff

    1. Out of the Past Series - Granville/Licking Co newspapers
    2. Stephen Emlyn-Jones
    3. At some stage after the 1850s or maybe much later a series of articles were published by a Ruth Sipe entitled "Out of the Past" concerning early settlers at Welsh Hills/Granville/Licking Co in a local newspaper. The series included Benjamin D Jones who died in Hawaii in 1866 - William D Jones who died in 1898 having settled in Sonoma Co Ca & David D Jones all of whome were sons of David R Jones & Joan Susan Thomas who settled in the Welsh Hills in 1837. Could any one advise the name of the newspaper & dates involved so that I could obtain copies. As I am based in Europe information is hard to come by & any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks. Stephen Emlyn-Jones -- Stephen Emlyn-Jones Bridgend http://www.semlyn.demon.co.uk/ Wales mailto:Stephen@semlyn.demon.co.uk

    3. Keep It Simple Site -- OHLICKIN's website has been updated to simplify navigation. 1. A sidebar menu has been added to guide users to main directories, and incorporate constant site data such as required logos, copyrights and site maintenance data. This frees the rest of the screen for each page's variable data. See: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohlickin/ 2. The "index" pages in the main directories (Links, Lookups, Migrate, Queries, Surnames) have been updated to guide users to other pages at this site. The sitemap has also been updated to show new pages added to each directory. See: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohlickin/migrate/migrate.html 3. A "new" page (baselick) has been added to "link" OHLICKIN to other Licking County research sites of general interest. The newest addition is Don Young's "Index to obits in 'The Granville Times'" See: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohlickin/links/baselick.html 4. The "lookups" page has been updated to guide users to the family history pages contributed by volunteers as well as to lookup volunteers. See: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohlickin/lookups/lookups.html I've noticed several people are beginning to use the OHLICKIN-L mailing list to search for ancestors. Don't forget to use the "Queries" form at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohlickin/queries/query/queries.html to reach more people!

    2. Bill and Barbara Martin
    3. Since posting this a couple days ago, two additional items have turned up which I list here to make Rebecca HARRIS's family more complete and correct. Maybe this will also help tie to your data. 1. My cousin and Licking researcher, Rusty, prompted me to note that I'd listed Iva D. MARTIN as a son of Rebecca. He should have been listed as I-R-A MARTIN. 2. Additional children of Joseph and Rebecca [HARRIS] MARTIN have surfaced as well as birthdates for two of the children: Walter Jesse William Henry plus those two already mentioned- Nora M. MARTIN b. 17 Sep 1877; Licking Co., OH Ira D. MARTIN b. 11 June 1880; Utica, Washington Twp., Licking, OH Names are from typed manuscripts of Frances Russel Allen, who formerly lived at: 93 Canal St., Newark, OH Birth dates are from "Licking Co. 1. Harris, Isaac
    2. Hi all! I thought I'd post some information and ask for any connections at the same time. >From History of Licking County, Ohio, page 693 Newton Township Harris, Isaac, was born in Loudoun county, Virginia, in 1803, came with his father to Clear Fork valley in 1805, where within a mile of Chatham, he lived, and where he died August 6, 1879, aged seventy-six years, having, at the date of his death, the longest residence (seventy-three years) of any person within the borders of Newton township. I think that is one run-on sentence!! I believe he is the brother to Joshua (Joseph) Harris who married Elizabeth Siler (Silars) and John Harris who married Cassandra Hughes. I would be glad to share information with others! Betsy McGee Rice Riceys5@aol.com
