He is known to have a sister, a œ sister and two œ brothers, names unknown except for Aaron. Also looking for decendants of Aaron Baker. He was also born in Johnstown, OH on March 6, 1830. Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for help with land deeds. Thought I would pass along this tip: "In the lower left corner of most old deeds you will find two to four witnesses. The first one is always from the husband's side, the next two from the wife's side. That is to protect her one-half dower rights under the law. Nothing you will ever use will give greater clues to maiden names". I hope this holds true in Licking County!! Peggy
I recently joined the Gen Society & am filling out the forms. My question is, can the ancestor chart and family group sheets be those that are printed by Family Tree Maker? Or do they need to be those that came with my packet? Thanks. Researching Abraham SHOWALTER b 1841 in ? married Magdalene HOLDER b 1844 in ? Their son, Charles E. SHOWALTER b 1878, I believe in Etna, is my grandfather. I have been desparately trying to find proof of Abe's parents as being Moses and Susan Showalter from Fairfield Co. I've identified nearly two dozen deeds on Grantee/Grantor Indexes at the LDS library, but could go broke sending away for the microfilms. Is there another solution? Appreciate any tips. The following showed up on the DAY list. Thought I would pass it along as it relates to Licking County. Please direct any answers to Pat Boyer [paboyer@cybertrails.com]: Hi, I have just subscribed to this list and am in hopes of finding someone out there that has info on this woman. She is my husband's ggg-gmother and so far she's a mystery. She was born in 1828 either in Muskingum or Licking Co.,Ohio and this is just a guess. We do know that she lived in Muskingum Co.,Ohio in the 1840's. She married JACOB BOYER, born April 10, 1793 in Frederick CO, Maryland on November 23, 1843. She was only 15 years old and JACOB was 50. They had 9 children by the names of:ANDREW JACKSON,JULIA ANN, JAMES,WILLIAM PETER,LEWIS, LUCINDA, MINERVA JANE, JACOB SEYMOUR. She died after JACOB SEYMOUR was born. Supposedly the children were then raised by her mother. This is about all we know. We would like to find out more about LUCINDA'S family. ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW ANYTING?????? Thank you for your help. I've had no luck on the list by giving the exact names of the ADAMS line that I need, so I'll ask if anyone has ANY information on any William ADAMS in Licking Co. in the mid 1800's. ADAMS is difficult to research, but a William ADAMS is even tougher! I think every family named some children William! Loleta Brown

Does anyone know this lady? She is listed as the author of a compilation of information about the Shaffer-Swick familles published by Provo in 1983. I believe the Swick family may have had Licking County Roots. There is a copy of this book in the DAR Library in DC and one of the sub families listed is "Holtsberry" which is definitely a Licking County Family. I would love to know if this book is still in publication. Karen

Thanks to everyone (like Margaret and Tom) who have already responded to my initial message. It's great to hear from everyone. Although I'm interested in learning about all possible relatives of mine from Licking County, the surname about which I am most curious. My strongest family ties to Licking County (of which I'm aware) is through my Moreland ancestors. I have already contacted the Licking County Genealogical Society, and they have given me so much great information about my ancestors. As far as the name Alwood is concerned, my maternal great-grandmother was Rhoda Alwood. I don't know where she was born, but I know that she died and was buried in Franklin County, Ohio, in 1938. She was supposedly born in the late 1860s or early 1870s. She was married in Licking County (I don't know when) to my great-grandfather, Elmer Evan Moreland, of Licking County. He was born in 1867 and died in Franklin County in 1950. As mentioned before, I would like to learn as much as possible about all of my Licking ancestors, but I am looking for information on Rhoda Alwood especially because she is one person about whom I have little or no information. My mother theorizes that she may have been a member of a Native tribe somewhere near Licking County (?), and that she may have been adopted by a non-Native family. As such, Mom thinks, the records may not have been kept or may have been destroyed. No one on either side of our family has any concrete of idea what our tribal affiliation(s) may be. Wyandotte has been suggested, but I have also heard Mohican and Seneca. If anyone can help me to find any information about Rhoda Alwood, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks for all of your help, and thanks for such a warm welcome to the group.
