Looking for the burial record for Johannes Dusthimer (John) and Mary Magdeline Prill Dusthimer who are said to be buried in Courson Cemetery, Linnville, Ohio. The Licking County Cemetery records show only a few burials in that cemetery. Is there anyone who has visited it? Could there be other burials there for which the tombstones have been lost? Any help appreciated. Wolfdm35@prodigy.net
The Computer Interest Group of the Licking County Genealogical Society met in the society's library at 2pm, Sunday, August 15th with 12 persons in attendance. The meeting was lead by LCGS President and Computer Chairperson, Ron Trager. Before holding a roundtable discussion, a video tape titled "Opening New Windows On The World - An Introduction to Computers and The Internet" was presented and viewed by the group. The nearly 45 minute long video was hosted by Richard Anderson from the cast of the TV series The Six Million Dollar Man and is part of the Microsoft Seniors Initiative program. The covered the basics in the following three areas: Computer Hardware, Computer Software and The Internet. For more information about the Microsoft Seniors Initiative program, the video, etc visit http://www.microsoft.com/seniors/ The group also filled out an evaluation form on their impressions of the videos. Topics of the roundtable discussion were: 1. Why LCGS Cig sign-in form has a place for the attendee's e-mail address? The sole purpose of wanting the e-mail address is to send out the notice of the next month's LCGS Cig meeting. 2. A discussion on junk e-mail was held and subscribing to mailing lists. 3. A discussion was held on connecting a computer, an answering machine and a phone to the phone line and what would be the best way to interconnect them. 4. A question was asked about the numbers shown when doing a search on the IGI (International Genealogical Index) at the LDS website at http://www.familysearch.org/ and how to get more information. 5. A member was having a problem when typing an answer to an e-mail - the screen would suddenly close. A discussion about internet providers time limits, key combinations, etc. ensued. 6. A discussion on printers not printing the last line of some e-mail messages from mailing lists. Using the copy and paste options between internet browsers and word processor programs was discussed as a work-around. 7. A question about adding user information to printouts in Family Tree Maker was asked. Some solutions were discussed. 8. It was announced that Ancestry has the Knox County, Ohio Vital Records database available for free searches for the next few days. 9. A question was asked about the how long the LCGS Cig group has existed and about programs that we have. The LCGS Cig has been in existence for at least 9 years and the normal format is a roundtable discussion. -- Bill Johns, member of Licking County (Ohio) Genealogical Society, Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Hi Licking Co Researchers, My journey in tracing my g - gg - and ggg-grandfather has taken me from VA thru WV, KY and now OH and possibly on to IN. I hope someone can help me. In a listing for the 1840 census for Licking Co., Newark TWP there is listed a Henry Riffey and a Andrew Riffey. What I don't have is: are they listed as being in the same household or as neighbors, and, if neighbors, who was in each household along with ages, etc. If anyone has a copy of this census that can fill in the info for me or even if you just have some general info about either one of these men I would greatly appreciate it. It is possible that Henry Riffey may be the father of Andrew, and this Andrew Riffey could be the father of my g-grandfather. Andrew was born in VA. and Henry was also from VA. In the VA census for 1820 Henry shows up as Henry Rife with 3 male children under the age of 10. All three having been born between 1810 and 1820. There are no names mentioned but Andrew was born in VA in 1818. Henry then moved from VA thru WV, KY and then on to OH before Andrew grew to manhood. In OH, Andrew married a Margaret, last name unknown, and later they moved, after having a child, my g-grandfather, to IN in the Co of Carroll. My g-grandfather then moved back to VA at the start of the Civil War. He was a member of Co. B, 11th VA Cavalry and settled in Hardy Co, WV after the War. I don't know what happened to Henry after 1840, but I do know that Andrew eventually moved with his family to Carroll Co. in IN. He shows up there in the census for 1850. I'm checking that lead as well. I know that this is alot to say and ask, and I do apologize for taking up so much time, but I'm up against a brick wall in trying to put together all of the pieces. Is there anyone out there that can help me? Glenn mailto:gc1@mindspring.com
Can someone give me the names of cemeteries in or around Hanover, Ohio? Also is there a listing of the graves at these sites? Any help will be appreciated. Ron Smith

Thank you for the reply The # 407 David Bowman (1813-1894) was a brother to my ggfather Samuel Bowman(1808-1877). I have been told #503 John Bowman (1807-1877) was also their brother, but have never tried to prove this. Their parents were James Robert Bowman(1778-1866) and Ann (Graves) Bowman (1778-1867). The # 509 Samuel Bowman, (1821-1855) was married to Lydia (Gordan) Bowman, and they had a son, David Austin Bowman (1845-1917). After Samuel's death in 1855, she married Reuben Leach. According to a published Bowman Family History in my possession (The Bowman's--Sep 21, 1934--#16252 from the Genealogical Society of Utah), his father was George Bowman, b. 1779, Perry Co., Oh. I don't know if he is related to the above Bowman family. I also know of other Samuel Bowmans, but none with a father named Joseph. As you stated--many of the settlers of the Praire and Licking Townships of Crawford Co. Il. came from the Shenendoah Valley via the Licking Co. Oh. area, then to Ill., and appeared to migrate together, and I feel this to be the area to search for their ancestors. Again, Thank You Jim

Where would I get a list of past mayors of Croton, Licking Co.? My great grandfather was Albert T. O'Harra and family stories say that he had been a mayor. I'm assuming in Croton. He lived in Licking Co. in the late 1800's, to early-mid 1900's. I lost alot of genealogy info in a flood in our town several years ago so I'm sorry for sketchy info. He was married to a Catherine Beatty and their daughter(my grandmother) was Ena O'Harra Nearpass. Ena died in her early 20's in 1914 in Indiana, but was born in Licking Co. Ohio. Any info on the O'Harra family line in Licking Co. Ohio would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roxanne Nearpass Lake email: karmalake@aol.com
I am new to the list and am searching information on the following surnames in Licking Co in the early 1900's. ELLINGTON; STEEN; AND SPROUSE One specific item I am having difficulty with is: George Lewis Ellington, a resident of Newark, marries Alma Irene Steen on June 14, 1917. The courthouse tells me they have no record of it in Licking Co and I can't find out where Alma was from, so I'm looking for where this marriage took place. The only clue I have about Alma is that she may have been born in Columbus, Ohio but they have have no record of the birth there in 1900. Any help on this question would be appreciated. Also would love to correspond with anyone searching these other surnames. Mary Whitaker Davis Lake City, Fl
For new listers I'm still looking for ancestors and siblings of my g-g-grandfather Abraham Baker. He was born in Johnstown, OH on March 4, 1822. He married Mary Ann Norman, Aug 10, 1842, and shortly after moved to Warsaw, IN before comming to Minnesota in 1864. He died in Fillmore County, MN on Jan 24, 1906. Death record says his father was Jacob and was born in Virginia and his mother born in Pennsylvania, but wasn't named. He is known to have a sister, a œ sister and two œ brothers, names unknown except for Aaron. Also looking for decendants of Aaron Baker. He was also born in Johnstown, OH on March 6, 1830. He emigrated from OH to Indiana, from there to Iowa, from Iowa to Minnesota, then to Madison S.D., where he lived a number of years when he returned to Minnesota. He died Sept 8, 1901. He had a wife and six children not named in his obituary. Thanks for any help. Larry ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Hi everybody, Is there anyone who could do a look up for me? My gggrandfather was Joseph H Dent (born latter part of 1700's - year unknown) in Lincolnshire England. He resided in Delaware Co, New York State until about 1817, moved to Licking County, remarried and had a son named "Edwin" with his second wife (name unknown). Joseph died about 1831 in Licking County or possibly Knox County. His older sons, born in England in the 1790's, were George A Dent and John T. All were known to have resided in the Licking Co/Knox county area/ and Johnstown, OH during the 1820-1830's. John was known to be a missionary and a singer who traveled.
