For anyone to use, I have posted several maps from 1866 Licking county atlas to the following links. Take Note: These are quite large files, they may take 3 to 4 minutes to load in your browser. If you have an application on your computer to handle photos, then I recommend saving them to disk and using that app to open and resize if you want. They were originally scanned at 150 lines and have been saved as HIGH quality jpeg's. If you have any questions about them, email me and I'll respond. I would like to thank everyone who responded to my request for information about Licking County Newspapers. The best source I found out about is the Ohio Historical Society http://www.ohiohistory.org/ar_tools.html with lists of all of the newspapers in Ohio on microfilm. Another source is the on line obituary index of the Granville Times http://users.gurulink.com/donyoung . So far I have not found any definitive information about my gggrandfather Moses Cummins, he apparently parted the waters and went under. Cort Cort Sims, cortsims@msn.com
I am researching the following names in Orange County: ALLISON / ELLISON in Goshen, Chester and Warwick in Orange Co. -- 1725 - 1840 DAVIS in Warwick in Orange Co. ca. 1750 - 1840 Isaac ALLISON, Jr. (b.1762; d. Mar. 15, 1825 in Orange Co., NY) married Mary DAVIS on June 28, 1785 at the Baptist Church in Warwick, Orange Co., NY. Isaac fought in the Revolutionary War. In his book, THE HISTORY OF THE ALISON OR ALLISON FAMILY IN EUROPE AND AMERICA A. D. 1135 TO 1893, Leonard Allison Morrison listed eight children of Isaac, Jr. and Mary (Davis) Allison. They are: Isaac III, Sallie, Nathaniel, Samuel, Mary, Annie (my G2 grandmother), Richard and Elizabeth. Mary (Davis) Allison moved with Annie and Elizabeth's families and other Allison relatives from Orange Co., NY to near Newark in Licking, OH about 1841. Mary died in Licking County on April 19, 1843. I have been to Licking Co., OH to do research and have a picture of Mary's gravestone which states that she died in her 79th year. That would make her birth year 1764. I do not have much information about Mary DAVIS' family. In his book, Morrison said that Mary's brother was Benjamin DAVIS. I have read that Mary's father may have been Gilliam DAVIS. If anyone else is researching these families, I will be happy to share information. Mary Allison Yonan
I had sent this info to someone who had ties to it. Then decided I would share with all. Growing up in Outville, I had heard my Mom and Grandparents talk about Dr Leatherman often. They were married in the 1880's probably. He was born in 1859 or 1860. I'd like to know the names and other info about their siblings, parents and other ancestors. She had a sister Belle. He had siblings whose names may be among the following: Carrie, Katherine, Martha and Wash(George W.?). He supposedly had a brother, given name unknown, who was killed in a Civil War battle probably in Georgia or Tenn.(Lookout Mountain?} Jack D Irwin, grandson.
The Transcribed Marriage Book for Licking County lists the marriage of: Joseph MARTIN to Allie R. HARRIS on 20 Sept 1876 by J.E. HARRIS Do you know the parents of this Joseph or any members of this Joseph's family with Allie? Or do you know Allie's parents? Do you know if Allie R. HARRIS 'went' by Rebecca? In 1998 I corresponded with Linda Fredrickson about this, but I've been unable to trace either Joseph or Allie/Rebecca. -Bill Martin Denver, CO

Hi, I'm trying to find the final resting place of Abraham (Abram) Noe Jr. and his first wife Phebe Condit. I have been informed that though, Phebe Condit died in Franklin county, She was supposedly buried at the Sylvester Williams Farm, in Jersey township, Licking county, Ohio. Does anybody know if there was a S. William's farm and were there any gravestones or a cemetery on it??? Would appreciate any information or a direction on which way to go...... Thank you, Stan Johnson
Cort- Homer [as you may already know] is the name given to the town previously named Burlington. It is about 4 miles west of Utica in Burlington Twp., Licking Co. It's roughly 20 miles north of Newark, in which cast the "Advocate" would be the paper. However, Homer is so close to the Licking/Knox County line that it's only about 10-12 miles on north to Mt Vernon in Knox County. You might try asking on the Knox County web site for the paper name up there. Best of luck. -Bill Martin Denver, CO Cort Sims wrote: > > What is the name of the newspaper that would have published obituaries of > people who died in Homer, Licking County, Ohio in the 1880s? > Cort Sims > cortsims@msn.com > > ==== OHLICKIN Mailing List ==== > Welcome! What is the name of the newspaper that would have published obituaries of people who died in Homer, Licking County, Ohio in the 1880s? Cort Sims cortsims@msn.com
There was an important stage coach stop, inn and tavern at Brownsville in the 1800's. A hotel, I suppose on the site of the original stagecoach stop was owned and operated by Homer and Ruth Orr. Ruth's sister, Nella and her husband Lawrence Zwayer, lived at their grocery store across Route 40. Question - when did the last stagecoach stop at the inn? An estimate or guess would be helpful. When was the National Pike first paved - that is when was the dirt road made into an all weather road? All comments appreciated. Congratulations to Licking County OGS and others for creating an interesting Licking County presence on the net. It is what I would have expected from that hard working bunch. Regards Hal
Hello, My name is Theresa Lindamood and I am new to the list. I am researching the Larimore family in Licking Ohio. My great, great grandfather Charles Melville Larimore was born there about 1868. His parents were Samuel Gilmore/Gilmer Larimore and Rose Buxton. Samuel was the son of Thomas Patton Larimore and his first wife Eleanore. I am seeking any information I can find on this family and interested in talking to anyone else who is researching the Larimore family as well. I have next to nothing on Rose Buxton. Thank you.
