    1. John HEATH and Effie SHAFFER & John Heath (father?) and Hannah DARLING
    2. Jim Heath
    3. I am looking for information on John HEATH b. April 18, 1816 in VT and Effie SHAFFER b. Feb. 15, 1821 possibly in Tuscarawas Co., OH. I believe that John's parents were John HEATH and Hannah DARLING and am looking for proof one way or the other. I would very much like to find out anything about Effie (Euphemia) SHAFFER's family. I have no clues. John HEATH and Effie SHAFFER were married January 17, 1839 in Tuscarawas Co., OH. By 1850, they had moved to Morgan twp., Owen Co., IN. At that time they had 5 children, Jemima b. 1840, John Calvin b. July 24, 1841, Peter b. 1843, Francis J. b. 1846 and Hannah b. April 21, 1847. The first 3 were born in OH, presumably Sandy, Tuscarawas Co., OH. The last 2 were born, presumably, in Morgan twp., Owen Co., IN. At the time John and Effie were married, John and Hannah DARLING HEATH were living in Licking Co., OH. I believe they were the younger John's parents. They ended up in Perry twp., Logan Co., OH. Thank you for your time and attention. 1. HANNA(H) Family in Licking Co.?
    2. Douglas D Andrus
    3. Hello, I am looking for any info. on the fllowing; In 1850 Robert(Rueben?) & Sophia HANNA family listed in the census of Etna in Licking Co. OH. Robert is age 37, & Sophia age 45. They have the following children listed with them; Jefferson age 13, Hiram age 10, Rebecca age 7, Melissa age 4, & Elizabeth age 6. In 1860 in Etna, Reuben Hannah is listed with Jefferson, age 23, Hiram age 19, Malissa age 143, Laura age 8, & Jane Chappy, age 39, Housekeeper in the Licking Lantern, Sister Rebecca Hanna, Eldest Daughter of Reuben Hanna died in Etna, Licking Co. OHio March 12, 1854, age 11 years, 19 days. In an infirmary record, Licking Co. 1840-1887. Sophia Hannah from Etna twp. entered 19 March 1863, disease: insane. Also. Sophia L. Hannars, age 65, entered 22 April 1879, disease: insane, remarks: return insane asylum. I am especially interested at this time in Elizabeth HANNAH, age 6 in 1850. This may be my great grandmother who stated in 1900 & 1905 in Wadena Co. Minnesota census records that she was born in Ohio in 1844. I looked at every HANNA(H) in Ohio in 1850 & this is the most likely. I am wondering if she is the child of Robert & Hanna as she is listed last, but older than Melissa. Any leads appreciated. I would like to get in contact with any descendants of the above. Thank you, Audrey andrusae@cougar.netutah.net

    1. Beaver, Beever, Bever
    2. Sue Ann Eichenbaum
    3. Hi, I am looking for a John Beaver (or Beever) born in Franklin County PA about 1793. He was a saddler in 1813. He is found, I believe, in Antrim, Franklin Co, PA in the 1820 census. Shortly thereafter he moved to Licking County. His sons David (1818) and Ignatius (1820) were born in Pennsylvania. Sons John (1827) and Anthony (1832) were born in Ohio. I believe I find him in the 1830 census in Bennington, Licking Co OH. In the 1840 census he is in Henry Co IL as John Bever. I believe there was also a daughter - she shows in the 1830 and 1840 census. In 1850 John is found in Bureau Co IL. In 1860 he was in Jackson Co, IA. He then moved to Wilson Co KS where he died in 1878. Does anyone have any evidence that the John Beaver I found in Bennington, Licking Co, OH is not my John Beaver? Any ideas on what I might search? Is there a list of saddlers in Licking County between 1820 and 1840? I hope someone can give me a hint. By the way Merla, your website is very well done. You might try looking for land records. The land deeds grantee/grantor index can be ordered through the LDS family history centers. Maybe you will find other Corbin's who owned land in the early time period. Peggy Cacciamatta

    1. Underground Railroad/Fugitive Slaves in Newark, Ohio
    2. Densmore
    3. I am currently doing research on the the Underground Railroad and am seeking more information on a case from Newark, Ohio, in 1849-50. In August 1849, two fugitive slaves, Adam Hall (or Mendenhall) and his half-brother, Patrick Sneed arrived in Newark, Ohio. Sneed left after a few days but Hall remained and married. In August, the sherriff received notification that Sneed and Hall were wanted in Georgia in connnection with a murder of a man in Savannah. Hall is briefly arrested, then rearrested in December 1849, and was in March 1850 delivered to Baltimore, Md., and there picked up by Edwin DeLeon of Columbia, South Carolina who claimed to be is owner. However, both DeLeon and a Judge Mordecai Sheftall of Georgia denied that either Mendenhall/Hall or Sneed was suspected of the murder, and this was only an attempt by Sneed's owner, David Dillon, to retrieve his property (Patrick Sneed) from a free state. In August 1853, Patrick Sneed is again arrested, this time while working as a waiter in Niagara Falls, NY, on the murder charge. He is taken to court in Buffalo, NY, where letters from Sam B. Sherwood and J.M. Byers, of Newark, and testimony from Licking County Sherriff Wm Parr convince the court that the murder charge was a false charge meant to capture a fugitive slave rather than a fugitive from justice. Sneed is released and goes to Toronto, Ohio. The above information is based on several articles in the Buffalo, NY papers in August-September 1853. I'm looking for documentation of this case in Ohio (and Georgia). Can anyone suggest sources that I can use? Is this case known to local historians? Any thoughts on why Adam Hall/Mendenhall would travel to Newark? Who did he marry in Newark? Any assistance will be appreciated. 1. Violetta [Davis] Anderson
    2. Denise Crawford
    3. I have several pieces of a puzzle I'm trying to put together - can anyone help me? On 5 Feb 1826 a Robert Anderson marries Violeta Davis in Licking Co, Ohio. In 1830 there is a Violetta Anderson listed as a head of household in Newark Twp. Still need to look at the 1840 census. In 1850 Violetta Anderson can be found in Crane Twp, Paulding Co, Ohio living with a probable son - Charles C. Anderson 27years old. Enumerated next to Charles and Violetta Anderson are Lewis & Phalyann "Polly"[Anderson] Pierce, a daughter. In 1860 Violetta Tanner is living with daughter Phalyann [Anderson] Pierce and her family in Chester Twp, Ottawa Co, Michigan. Does anyone know which Davis family Violetta belonged to or anything about Robert Anderson including a death - probably in Licking Co? Denise Crawford
