Does anyone know of a County Home or Orphanage that might have been operating in Licking CO. in 1860? My ggrandfather, Owen Foster Stanton, was left alone when his mother died in 1860. His father was serving in the Navy in the Mississippi Squadron at the time so someone had to care for the child that was only two to four years old. He was living with the Nathan English family in the 1870 census as a 15 year old farm hand but was not listed with the family in 1860. There are no Stantons listed in 1860 so it is presumed his mother died before the census was taken. There is no record of her death or his birth or any record of them before the 1870 census listing. I do not have a maiden name for Elizabeth Stanton or ay records of her husband, Thomas Stanton. Anyone knowing of any charitable organizations that would be able to place a child or care for him/her until foster parents were found in that time frame, please respond. Please! Anyone! Help! Would there be a court record placing the child with someone or were they all destroyed in the Court House fire? They married in Licking County sometime after Jul 1804 but before 1808. I believe her father is John Stateler, one of the first Licking County settlers who purchased land in 1804. At least one branch of the Stateler family later moved to Marshall County, Illinois. Mine is the Radcliff line, so I don't have a lot of Stateler information. Peggy Cacciamatta
