    1. OBIT: Frank B. Rutledge - Bryn Mawr - 1928
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Rutledge Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DZB.2ACI/2443 Message Board Post: Frank B. Rutledge, 58, the past year owner of the Campbell farm south of Granville, on the Lancaster road, died suddenly Friday night (1 Dec 1928) at 9:45. Death was attributed to apoplexy. He, with his family, had resided on the farm Bryn Mawr, since its purchase and in that short time had made many friends in Granville. He had moved to the farm about a year ago, and although he made his home there, he had maintained active business connections in Zanesville where he had lived almost his entire life. He is survived by his wife, a son Frank B. Jr., and his mother, Mrs. Mary Rutledge, all of the home; also, an adopted daughter, Miss Virginia of Zanesville. Mr. Rutledge was a member of Grace M. E. church, Zanesville, and was actively associated with the affairs of the church and its various societies. His views on religious topics were respected by all his acquaintances. Frank Bernard Rutledge was born in Zanesville August 19, 1870, a son of William Hewitt and Mary Neely Rutledge. Frank B. Rutledge acquired an early education in the Zanesville public schools whereupon he entered Ohio Wesleyan university at Delaware, and there mastered higher courses of study. He entered the field of active work as assistant cashier in the Zanesville freight office of the Pennsylvania railroad and later accepted a position with the W. C. Townsend company, Zanesville wholesale dealers in marble and granite. Still later he became associated with his father in the carpet business and when he assumed control was well prepared by knowledge, experience and business training to give a progressive development. Since 1891 he had been engaged with marked success with storage quarters in the Memorial building. He had been a lifelong resident of Zanesville. Mr. Rutledge was intimately, associated with two Zanesville banks, the Peoples Savings Bank and the Guardian Savings and Trust company, both of which he served as a director. Mr. Rutledge was united in marriage to Miss Lillian A. Davis, daughter of George W. Davis, who for about three years, ending in 1891 was the Pennsylvania company's division freight agent, with residence in Zanesville. Mrs. Rutledge died, leaving a daughter, Mary Virginia, whom they had adopted. For his second wife, Mr. Rutledge married Miss Eleanor Dreibelbis, and they had a son, Frank B. Jr. The parents were active members of Grace M. E. church. He was vice-president of Bethesda hospital. Among other worthy local institutions none appealed to him with greater force than the Young Men's Christian Association of which he was president for a number of years, relinquishing this position when he moved from the city. The funeral was held Monday morning at the home south of Granville. Rev. F. B. McIntosh officiating, assisted by Rev. T. T. Crawford, formerly of Zanesville, now of Columbus. The body was taken for burial in Woodlawn cemetery, Rev. J. M. Shimer of Grace M.E. church conducted brief services at the grave. Twenty-five pupils of Union school, classmates of Frank B. Rutledge, Jr., attended the services of their friend's father. Funeral director, J. K. Morrow. The Granville Times, published Granville, Ohio Thursday, December 6, 1928

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DZB.2ACI/2440 Message Board Post: I am seeking any info on the subject and his family. 1850 census for Newark, Licking, OH: E. [Elijah] Cooper age 53 grocer b. NH Mary age 35 b. NH Mary age 17 b. OH Martha age 15 b. OH Henry age 13 b. OH Caroline age 1/12 b. OH Rachael Davis age 20 b. Wales Next door to this family was the Jewett family, of which the head of household was also a grocer. Don't know if the families are related or not. By 1860, Elijah must have been dead, as Caroline was living as a family boarder with the family of Charles Hoover in McKean Twp. I am hoping someone can help me track down this family, as I believe the daughter Martha may be my ggg grandmother. Her name and approximate age, as well as her geographic location, make her a very possible contender. Her parentage has long been a mystery, which I hope to solve. Thanks, Laurie

    1. OBIT: Elizabeth Leonard Burton buried: Brownsville, Ohio
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Burton, Leonard, Dove, Dennis Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DZB.2ACI/2438 Message Board Post: Within nine hours after she was stricken with apoplexy Saturday evening, Mrs. Elizabeth Burton, aged 84, closed her eyes in the eternal sleep. Her death occurred at 2:10 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of her son on Market street. (Zanesville, OH) Despite her advanced years Mrs Burton had enjoyed good health in recent years and the sudden attack at 5:45 o'clock Saturday evening was a great shock to the family. She was rendered unconscious and remained in that condition until the early morning hours, when she breathed her last. Although not a native of this county (Muskingum) Mrs. Burton had spent most of her life in and about Zanesville. She was born in Franklin county, Pa, July 24, 1828. Mrs. Burton was the widow of the late Robert Burton. A daughter, Mrs. Clara Fisher, died at her home in Hopewell twonship, about three weeks ago. The survivors are two daughters and one son: Rufus Burton of this city, Mrs. William Weller, of South Zanesville, Mrs. Norton Dove of Mt. Sterling, and a sister, Mrs. Christina Dennis of Iowa, who is 96 years old. Mrs. Burton had just been advised several days ago of the death of her brother, Lewis Leonard, aged 94, at Indianapolis, Ind. He died March 21, but through an oversight, the aged sister in this sity had not been notified. The Leonard family was noted for longevity of the members and for the war records of the men in the family. One of Mrs. Burton's grandfathers served in the Revolutionary war, two grandfathers lived to be over 100, three brothers served in the Mexican war. Lewis was first lieutenant in the Seventh battery of the Indiana artillery in the Civil war and his son was a Spanish - American war veteran. For the past twenty years, Mrs. Burton has been a member of the South street M. E. church She was an estimable Christian woman and was held in the highest esteem by her many friends throughout the county. The funeral will be conducted at the Burton home privately Tuesday. The remains will be placed in the vault in Greenwood cemetery and will later be taken to Brownsville, Licking county, for interment in the family burial ground.
