This came from the transcribed records of the cemetery that the Licking County Genealogical Society has. As far as John & Cassandra Harris, they had the following children: Stacy, Delilah,Mary,Thomas,Alexander,John Jr,Isaac,Margaret,Nehemiah,Nancy,David,James,Jane,Sarah & Joseph. I have birth and death dates of some of them. I have been trying to find information on John,Joshua & Isaac's father Nehemiah Harris Sr. I saw where it indicated that he came from Ireland. I am trying to find someone who has documentation or knowledge of any documentation about him coming from Ireland. I know that before coming to Ohio,Nehemiah lived in Virginia for a period of time. Ken,you don't happen to have any information about him do you?? If you would like further information on John & Cassandra Harris you can e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks Bob

They list Alexander 1822, James 1832, David 1834, Jane 1836, Sarah 1838 and Joseph 1840. Can you please tell me the source of your information that they also had son John [who m. Lydia]? Also, there's plenty of time between their marriage in 1817 and birth of Alexander and James to fit in a few more children. Did John and Cassander Harris have other children not listed in the 1850 and 1860 census records? Thanks

The spelling of her father's name is shown as " John Eckilberry", born in Ohio; I'm trying to locate anyone who might have information about him and/or his family. This name could also be spelled as "Eckelberry"; I have no idea what part of Ohio he might have been born in, but his daughter and her husband, Isaac N. Edington lived in Licking Co. for a few years before moving on and settling in Fairfield Co., OH where they died and are buried in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery. Elisabeth was born abt. 1835 or 1837; her father should have been born about 20 years or so before her, so I'm looking at an approximate birth of 1815 or 1817 or earlier for her father, John Eckilberry (Eckelberry). Does this name "strike a cord" with anyone?" Elisabeth's mother's maiden name was: Margaret McClane, or Mc Clarre, also born in Ohio, probably in the same time span as her husband John (1815-1817). Elizabeth's parents may well have died in Licking Co. and that's how she came to meet and marry Isaac N. Edington in that area. Any information or ideas as to how to proceed to research this ancestor's family further will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The 1850 Jay Co. census shows a different age, but it also seems wrong on Jacob Sutton's age. She was buried in Jay County and Jacob Sutton's fater Samuel Ward Sutton did live in Randolph Co. at some point. Jacob also married (after Fanny died) a woman from Randolph Co. Also, Samuel was married to a Fanny Johnston in 1823, I have no idea what happened to her but he married Catherine Hammers in 1828. I've always thought Fanny was Samuel's daughter by his first wife, but have no proof to that theory. Do you know what year Fanny was born? Because George (Samuel's father) also had a daughter I haven't identified either and she was born 1815-1820. . If Fanny was a little older, then she could have be Samuel's sister. D. Davis was born. There are half a dozen listed in the 1840 census in Licking County, and it is not clear whether they are all brothers or perhaps cousins or even some fathers and sons. They live very near one another. It is clear that William is the father of John, who is living with him in 1850. From "Early Ohio Settlers: Purchasers of Land in East and Central Ohio, 1800 - 1840", by Ellen and David Berry, 1989. John Renick Davis, residence Licking Co., purchased at the Zanesville land office, Range 10, Twp 4, Section 15, on January 18, 1836. This is the same Eden Twp land he is living on with his family in later censuses. There are no other Davis family purchases in Eden Twp listed in this source, though there are dozens of Davises listed. The listing would seem to indicate that he was living elsewhere in Licking Co. when he purchased the Eden Twp land. The name Renick seems a good clue, and I looked in the colonial censuses in VA for Renick, and found some in Greenbrier Va, along with some Davises, including one with the unusual spelling of "Aron". In the marriage records, however, there were no direct links of a Davis married to a Renick. In subsequent years, quite a number of Renick/Rennicks and Davises appear in KY in the same locations together. Is it possible KY was a stopping place for this group on the way to Ohio? 1830 OH, Licking Co., Eden Twp John Davis, 0-0-0-0-1/0-0-0-1-0 William Davis, 0-0-1-1-0-0-1/0-0-1-0-0-0-1 James Davis, 1-0-0-0-1/1-0-1-0-1 In the 1840 census there are already 5 children in the family of John R. Davis, and the oldest girl, between 10 and 15, would have been born before 1830. But she may be a sister or helper; it is hard to tell from this census. John is only 31 and Rebecca 30 at this time; they might have had a daughter this age. 1840 Ohio, Licking Co, Edan Twp J. R. The girl 20 to 25 is gone, and there is only one girl under 15, Nancy. (The appearance of Nancy in this census, with the correct age, confirms that this is the correct Davis family. The plat map for Licking Co. at around this time shows that the Davis family farm is within a mile of the Smith family farm.) The listing is under the head of household, William Davis, the father of John. Baylis appears, in the first of his many spellings. 1850 Ohio, Licking Co, Eden Twp, p. 393, listing 1011/1016 William Davis, 76, farmer, $3000, born VA John R. D. Looking to share info on this family, also Josselyns and Hamiltons... thanks, Martha Hamilton Scott 1. HUGH4 SCOTT (HUGH3, ABRAHAM2, HUGH1) was born August 07, 1763 in Washington County, PA, and died April 17, 1849 in Newark, Licking County, OH. He married JANE LATTA 1786 in Westmoreland County, PA, daughter of WILLIAM LATTA and SARAH. She was born February 19, 1766 in Bucks County, PA, and died January 22, 1839 in Newark, Licking County, OH. Notes for HUGH SCOTT: Hugh Scott, Jr. (1763-1849), served in Capt. John Wall's company, Washington County, Pennsylvania militia, 2nd battalion, 1782 from John R Scotts book, 1984: Hugh Scott removed from Washington County, PA to Licking County, OH in the fall of 1811. Here he settled on a farm of 240 acres, 7 miles south of Newark. He built a two story log house which is still standing (August 1894) though abandoned as a dwelling. He is described as a "staunch Whig, an unflinching abolitionist, and a Calvinistic Presbyterian. He was one of the ruling elders of the First Presbyterian Church of Newark. He was a successful farmer and is said to have had the finest farm in Licking County. In 1826, his son Abram records: "a very fine and extensive iron ore bank was discovered on my father's farm, which promised a new impulse to business. The bank was opened, and my father continued to carry on the business in connection with farming, which required all the help he could muster." More About HUGH SCOTT: Burial: Lutheran Graveyard, a mile beyond the Scott farm, Newark, OH Notes for JANE LATTA: from the John Scott book, 1894: Jane Latta was described by her son Abraham, in 1836, as having great strength of character. "She was a woman of more than ordinary daring and perserverance, for though raised amid the refinements and luxuries of an eastern life, she found no difficulty in accomodating herself to the homely etiquette of backwoods gentry, and the rustic appearance of a log cabin."
