The annual reunion of descendants of Lewis Rose, willl be held on Labor Day Sunday, September 4, 2005, at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds near Proctorville. Dinner is potluck, and usually starts about 12:30. Lewis Rose was born in 1819, married to Margaret Lambert about 1838, and after her death, married Sarah Louisa Hoskinson in 1873. He was the father of at least 18 children, with many descendants still living Lawrence Co and area. Lewis was a son of William and Mary Adkins Rose, who were married in Gallia Co in 1811. Lewis Rose's next older sibling was Mary Rose (she had a twin brother William). Mary Rose was born in 1817 and married John Ellcessor, an 1820 German immigrant, in 1836. Rufus B Ellcessor was their only child who lived to marry and raise a family. His wife was Martha Jane Sampson, a daughter of John and Caroline Fowler Sampson. The Rose Reunion organizer has graciously extended an invitation for the descendants of John and Mary Rose Ellcessor to join them at this years reunion. As past president of the Ellcessor Reunion, I urge any family members who might see this message to pass the invitation along to all the family members they know. If interested in attending, please contact me. If enough of you are interested, I will try to organize some events for the Ellcessor's on Saturday Sept. 3. Many of you have never seen the area where the earliest generations of the family lived, or the cemetery where the first four generations of the family are buried. We could meet at the shelter at the Locust Grove Cemetery and have a guided tour from there. My mother was Darlene Ellcessor, eldest daughter of "Roy" and Chloe Morris Ellcessor. They still lived in Mason Twp, in the valley below the Rufus Ellcessor farm, when I was a child. Mom recently celebrated her 85th birthday. I am also a Lewis Rose descendant, on the Clark side, where his second daughter, Emily Jane, married Levi Clark of Aid Twp Donald Clark 1005 Township Rd 149 Proctorville, OH 45669-9082 Ph. 740-886-7230 Email: [email protected] or [email protected]
