I thought that this would be of interest. LAWRENCE COUNTY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. The following named gentlemen met at the Secretary's office, on the Fair Grounds of the Lawrence County Agricultural Society on the 6th inst., for the purpose of organizing a Horticultural Society, namely: H. N. Gillett, Nelson Cox, James M. Derring, Geo. T. Walton, John Campbell, William D. Kelley, Thomas Gardner, Elias Nigh, S. S. Staly, Judson Gardner, Cornelius Turley, P. R. Polley, James M. Kelley, Charles M. Kingsbury; A. J. Trumbo, J. T. Irwin, Henry Goodall, S. C. Johnson, Jr., Hiram Campbell, C. M. Gliddon, A. W. Hurt, W. F. Willson, Robert Hamilton, D. R. Summers, and Cyrus Edison, and made a temporary organization by the adoption of the following Constitution: "This Society shall be known as the Lawrence County Horticultural Society, the object of which is to promote the interests of Horticulture, by a free interchange of experimental knowledge on the subject, the exhibition of horticultural products, &c. Section 1. The officers of this society shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, (who shall be ex-officio Corresponding Secretary) Treasurer, and Council of Five, who shall consist of the President, Vice President, and three members, all of whom shall be elected annually by the members of the society, at the regular November meeting. Sec. 2. The duties of the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, shall be such as are usually performed by such officers in like organizations; and it shall be the duty of the Council, under the direction of the Society, to have the general supervision of its business. Sec. 3. Any person may become of member of this Society, without regard to his place of residence, with the assent of a majority of the members present, by signing this Constitution, and paying into the Treasury of the Society the sum of one dollar. Sec. 4. The Society shall have power to make such assessments on the members from time to time as may be necessary to defray its incidental expenses. Sec. 5. The first regular meeting of this Society shall be held at the Court House, in Ironton, on the second Tuesday in November next, and the regular meetings of the Society shall be held on the second Tuesday in May, July, September and November, in each year thereafter, at such places as the Society may direct. Sec. 6. Amendments to this Constitution may be made at any regular meeting of the Society by the concurrence of two-thirds of the members present. Sec. 7. Special meetings of the Society may be called at any time when deemed advisable by the Council or ordered by the Society. Sec. 8. The Society may make such by-laws, rules and regulations as may be deemed needful for the better government of this Society, not inconsistent with this Constitution." The election of the following gentlemen as officers was made: President - Nelson Cox. Vice President - Geo. T. Walton. Secretary - Elias Nigh. Treasurer - Peras R. Polley. Council - John Campbell, William D. Kelly, C. Turley. The First Annual Election of the Society will be held at the Court House, in Ironton on the second Tuesday of November next, at 1 o'clock P.M., when the officers will be elected for the next year.
