Chattanooga Times January 16, 1938 Rev. J. M. Porter, 78, died Friday afternoon in his home in Daisy. He is survived by his wife; four sons, Edgar, of Proctorville, O; Oley, of Hixson; George of Appalachia, Va., and John Childress, of Huntington, W. Va.; five daughters , Mrs. Nellie Langdon and Mrs. Mary Wilson of Ohio; Mrs. T. T. Henry of Chattanooga; Mrs. Rex Henry of Cassandra, Ga., and Mrs. Hattie Nale of Daisy, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Madge Johnson of Rock Island, Ill. Funeral Services will be held at the Falling Water Baptist church at 2 o'clock this afternoon, the Rev. Mack Smith, the pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Red Bank cemetery, Smith Funeral service in charge. Pallbearers will be Frank Johnson, Earl Deakins, Frank and Arthur Johnson, George and Albert Johnson; honorary. Henry Carden, Frank Marler, Tom Chadwick, Mr.. Sneed, Joe Johnson, Ed Barker, Joe Selcer, and Marvin Elzy. ****************************************************************************** Note J.M. (Jerry M.) was my great-grandfather he was born 28 Feb 1859 in Union Twp (Probably on Bear Creek). He was survived by his 2nd wife Clara Childrey. Mary Wilson and John Childrey(obit listed him as a Childress)were actually Jerry's step children. Jerry was 1st married to Emma Jean Goodall Oct 1879 in Union Twp Lawrence Co., Ohio. Emma died abt 1890 and is buried in a unmarked grave a Bradrick. Jerry's son Edgar was my grandfather. Jerry and Edgar were both Baptist Ministers. *******************************************************************************
I'm wondering if J.M. Porter is related to William Lee Porter of Pulaski County, Kentucky who was a Baptist minister. Also his son John January Porter was a Baptist minister.
