Hello list, I am researching the family of Pleasant Roberts born Christmas Day, 1789, and his wife Hannah, born 1794, both in Virginia. There are Monacan Indians in the area of both Campbell and Pittsylvania Counties Virginia named Roberts, and there are "free people of color" by the same surname there, as well. Same group? My particular Roberts family was held in slavery in a sort of indentured servitude, as all 138 workers received their freedom in 1827, per the owner's will. About 70 of them were sent to Lawrence Co. Ohio in 1827, and show up on the 1830 census there. I am searching for anyone else researching this Roberts family. Pleasant and Hannah's children were named Elizabeth/Betsey, Elvy, Paulina, Laura, Penelope, Charles, and John. I am searching for both Pleasant and Hannah's parents, and Hannah's maiden name. Their daughter Betsey is my ancestor, I have all of her life's records. I would love to share what I have gathered and learned of her parents' past. Some say this slave-owner in Va. was a Quaker and would purchase entire families so they wouldn't be sold apart. I have the emancipation records of all of his freed workers. Thank you.
