I retired in April 08 and have a little more time to review my pieces of paper with scraps of genealogy info and I went to Ironton to visit the Woodland Cemetery to see if Fanny Mckee and Thomas Mckee were there. Until I saw the gravestone I could not verify if the Thomas McKee whose obituary said he died from an injury in 1879 from stepping off the train, was my great, great granfather or not. I do believe he is now. The obituary had not mentioned his wife Fanny nor his children and a death index I found in the Ironton library said that the d.1879 Thomas Mckee was single. It was also a mystery because a cemetery index said that George Brawley had moved Thomas Mckee d. 1879 to a different lot in the 80s or 90s. For a while I assumed the couple was estranged or divorced. Anyhow, the headstone in Woodland Cemetery contained the names Thomas McKee 1822-1879 and "His Wife: Fanny Hope 1838-1923. I believe George Brawley moved Thomas to the Fanny Mckee plot after being interred on another plot?? The cemetery record said George Brawley was the brother-in-law of Thomas McKee. Therefore, Fanny Hope Mckee was a Harper and Margaret Harper's sister and probably Mary Ann Harper's sister. Fanny McKee's death certificate said that her father was Robert Harper and her mother was Jennie Crawford, both born in Ireland. I have no idea if Hugh and Thomas are brothers, but it is possible. To further link the Iowa connection, my sister just found some old pictures while packing for a move, and sent me a picture of a young "Charlotte Mckee Waud". This was the name on the back of the picture. Further, an 1860 Iowa census had Fanny & Thomass McKee living with or right next to Hugh and Mary Ann McKee. At that time it looked like Fanny and Thomas had Sarah(Furlong), one year and Margaret 3 years living there and the other children listed must have been Hugh's: Charlotte 5, James 3, and Jane 1. So. . . how about that? Please write back and I'll list my e-mail. Mary Sue in Ohio, Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
