    3. Response to query from "Suze in Texas": Census info is available at Heritage Quest. Many, if not most, libraries have a subscription to this, and those individuals with a library card can access Heritage Quest without charge - from their home computer. At least that's how it works through my local library. A Lawrence Co. online source that has been very helpful to me over the years is the Lawrence Register. There is quite a bit of info on this site that is free, and some info is only indexed and would require payment to someone to find the details for you. If you haven't been to this site, it may be worthwhile to do some searching there. By searching on the site for Solomon Nelson (search box is at the top right of the web pages), the following page displayed with some references to Solomon Nelson. To gather details from some of these references, you would probably either need to pay a local researcher or ask on the List if someone would be kind enough to find the info for you at Briggs library. Here's the URL for this page: http://www.lawrencecountyohio.com/search/node/solomon%20nelson And on another web page at this site, there is a John Nelson, Benjamin Nelson, Mahala Nelson and Henry Nelson mentioned in a bio of Benjamin F. Boggs. Could these be part of your Nelson line? Here's the URL for that page: http://www.lawrencecountyohio.com/node/13 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Per a MILLER-NEAL family history submitted by Reverend Chester I. Miller to the "History of Lawrence County, Ohio 1990", a book that was compiled by the History Book Committee - Lawrence Co. Gen. Society, p. 241, "Delphena Miller (1792-1877) married Benjamin Nelson, and lived in Symmes Township" ............ I don't know if this is your Benjamin Nelson, and I don't find this marriage in the "Earliest Marriage Records of Lawrence County, Ohio, Volumes I-II-III, April 11, 1817 to July 23, 1843" compiled by Vera Mae (Sanders) Murnahan. In this same book, p.5, under Symmes Township is this little blurb about the Nelson brothers - " ................ Symmes Township was organized in 1820. George Pine, John C. Stewart, William G. Robinson and Silas Spurlock were the first settlers. ...................... Other early settlers were: Constantine Handley, Thomas and John Wray, Caleb McDaniel, Benjamin and Solomon Nelson ...................... ". That is the only reference to Solomon Nelson in this book per the index. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the "History of Lawrence County. Ohio - Vol. 2", p. 82, there is this reference to the Nelson brothers. John T. Irwin wrote a series of letters to the Ironton Register that were originally published in 1899, if I understand the notation in the book correctly, and the letter published on Jan. 26 includes this reference: "My father, George Irwin, moved to the log house that stands on the farm of R.M. Wickline, in Symmes township in December, 1827. At that time, there were twelve or fifteen families in the township. They were John C. Stewart, at the forks of John's creek; William McCartney, John Nelson, Wm. Burk, Solomon Nelson, where Thomas Cooper now lives; Benjamin Nelson, between the two Buffalo creeks; .................". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mahaley Nelson m Alexander Boggs 20 Feb 1827 - married by Caleb McDaniel, J.P. Mary Nelson m Thos Cooper 18 Apr 1822 - married by David Spurlock, J.P. Matilda Nelson m Henry Warnicker 17 May 1839 - married by William Burk, J.P. Sarah Nelson m Pillengton Merritt 19 Dec 1833 - married by John Pinkerman, J.P. Source: "Earliest Marriage Records of Lawrence County, Ohio, Volumes I -II-III, April 11, 1817 to July 23, 1843 Compiled by: Vera Mae (Sanders) Murnahan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I do not find Benjamin or Solomon Nelson on the 1840 Lawrence Co, OH Fed. Census. I searched Eleanor "Nellie" Nelson on the 1850 Census without success. Do you have names of any children of Solomon and Eleanor "Nellie" Nelson? There is a Solomon Nelson between the ages of 30-40 on the Kanawha Co, VA 1840 Census with an adult female between 20-30 and a male and female child < 5 yo, but this sounds too young to be your Solomon Nelson, right? I checked the OH Obit Index, 1830's-2009, Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center at Ancestry.com and found no Solomon Nelson nor Benjamin Nelson. =============================== Hope this helps. Let me know if there are specifics you would like me to search.
