    3. Hi Don, I have requested and received copies of the deeds for the years in question that I have. The problem is that I don't really understand the deeds as they involve a "Quit Claim" deed that lists the children and their spouses of my John Morrison; but says that they are heirs of Thomas W. Morrison. I am just uncertain who this original Thomas W. Morrison was and how he fits in. If I could examine the tax information in those years between 1843 and 1864 maybe I could find if Thomas W. and my John were the same person; or possibly Thomas W. was the grandfather of John's listed children; or how they were related. 1. The original deed was from 10-27-1843; Tract 17-2-34 SWSE(Fayette Twp just NE of South Point); sold by Wm. McCoy to Thomas W. Morrison (1). 2. The Quit Claim Deed was for the same tract of land on 7-6-1864; sold to the heirs of Thomas W. Morrison and then Thomas W. Morrison (2) bought the other siblings out. At least that's what I think happened. John and Sara Morrison's children listed below are the one's listed on the Quit Claim deeds. 3. Just another couple of notes: Thomas W. Morrison (2) was only 3 years old when the original deed was issued to Thomas W. Morrison (1). And I can find no record where Thomas W. Morrison (1) ever lived in Lawrence County. So I am just confused and grasping at straws. I am researching my MORRISON Family. My John Morrison was born c. 1801 in VA/WV? And died after the 1860 census and probably prior to the 1870 Census in Fayette Twp., Lawrence Co., OH. His wife Sara Ankrim was born c. 1799 in VA/WV? And died prior to the 1860 census. I have not been able to find either death record or location. Their children were Samuel, William D., James A., John, & Thomas Wilson Morrison and are the heirs listed on the Quit Claim deed above. The rest not. I know a few folks in Athens, but don't know if any of them do paid research. We have the early deeds indexes up to about 1900 in both hard copy and film at the Hamner Room of Briggs Library in Ironton. What names are you looking for? The county recorder had the first hundred books of deeds scanned and professionally prepped, and they are now on line. No index on line, just the deeds. I am having land and property ownership questions concerning Lawrence County in the mid to mid 1800's; specifically from 1840 to 1870. I believe what I am looking for might be available from the OU Library in the Archives and Collections Section under the Lawrence County Tax Duplicates; 1817 to 1890; 33 volume set. I am in Michigan and have not had the chance to get to Athens. My question to you is; Do you know anyone in the Athens area willing to do look-ups or paid research to check these documents for me? Apparently, they have never been microfilmed. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Bruce Bruce Morrison National Sales Manager LEIGHTRONIX, INC. Like you, I find the lack of activity on the LawCo List disappointing. There is so much history in this area plus there is such a cross-over with so many families having connections with several surrounding WV and KY counties as well as other OH counties, so it would seem this would generate a lot of postings. The gatewayed messages seem to be more frequent on a number of Lists, but I often find that clicking that link and going back and forth is just not to my liking, so it isn't unusual for me to just delete those messages. Not saying that's particularly useful to others or to me, but it does happen. I'd much prefer to see the postings direct to the List. Wish I had a solution to increasing the List activity. I sometimes wonder how many locals are active in the various Gen. societies but not online.
