I'm new to the list but have been researching my Lawrence county ancestors for over 30 years. I'm a descendant of ALLEN CORLEY / CAULLEY (b ca 1786 - d ca 1869) and his wife , MARY SINER, who settled in Lawrence Co ca 1829 in Symmes Township. One of his sons, ABEL COLLEY switched to using the name Colley before settling in Scioto Co. His son and my ancestor, JOHN CAULLEY (b ca 1815 in VA - d 1876 in MO) married ELIZA CLARKSON (b ca 1819 - d ca 1891 in MO) on January 17, 1838 in Lawrence Co. OH. She was the daughter of SAMUEL CLARKSON (b ca 1777 in PA - d ca 1860 in Lawrence Co). I'm always looking for additional information and fun stories about the family. I'll gladly share what I have with interrested family member. Oh, yes, I've started a new Lawrence Co "Genealogical Clearing House Page" at http://lawrencecoohio.myfam.io/ Thanks and good hunting!! Tom Caulley
Linda, Thank you so much. As tight as money is these days we all need to be helping each other with free information. It was next to a church of the same name. I don't have a picture but I have a drawing by one of the students. He also taught at a two room school in Aid. I went to school there & have many recollections. I also have pictures of the students, names & teachers. It was located at the curve in Aid beside Symmes Creek. I caoud give you more information next week if you like. Actually, at Aid my Dad was Principal, Teacher, Bus Driver, & Janitor of the Aid School. My Grandfather, James Vincent was on the school board for 19 years. And I believe that his Grandfather, Zalmon Wilson< was on the School Board in the 1800s. I'll check for sure. I have worked with computers since 1964, and have been a genealogist for 40 years. I have had some significant successes in my research, locating my birth parents on both sides (my mother two years ago on the 17th of this month, and my father's family one month ago) after being adopted at the age of three months, and without opening the sealed adoption records. I have taught the use of computers for family history research and storage for many years, and have beta tested many software products, including a number of genealogy applications. I say all this to give some background. I can recommend strongly Legacy Family Tree, by Millennia Software. You can download the free version at: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/ The Deluxe Edition is only $29.95, and is an awesome program with a large following, great response to user concerns, and excellent features. I DO NOT recommend the new Family Treemaker. It stinks I DO recommend uploading your files to Tribal Pages which allows you to password your files. I also recommend using a flash drive to back up your files on at regular intervals (part of my hurricane preparations) Pam Ft Myers FL -----Original Message----- >From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> >Sent: Aug 18, 2008 12:47 PM >To: OHLAWREN-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [OHLAWREN] computer question > >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > >Author: MSBG121 >Surnames: Blankinship, Blankenship, Rankin, Nida, Earwood, Dempsey >Classification: queries > >Message Board URL: > >http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.lawrence/3793/mb.ashx > >Message Board Post: > >the computer that I had all my genealogy on crashed! The OU Special Collections web page encourages the potential visitor to check that on line list before traveling to Athens. The Local Government records are in the process of being removed to the OHS, or possibly back to their home counties.
