If I could find a marriage record of William Lunsford and Martha Day, when they were married would answer all the questions......but no susch luck. I have been searching for that for about 6-8 years now. Hopefully I may find it on my next research trip to Huntington. I plan on spending a lot of time in Lawrence County OH and in KY on this trip. I need documents from both areas. WHatever I find, if anything I will share with everyone as I have the information regardng the parentage statements by both William and Andrew Lunsford regarding the names of their father and mother in the Wayne County, WV marriage records. I just wish one of them would have spelled out their mother's name. I am currently cleaning out old files on m PC to free us space and so in the next few days I will look into the 1850 census records to see if I can locate William Jr and his brother, Andrew Lunsford. At this point I am also unaware of any other siblings they may have had....I want to solve the mystery of their parentage before I accept additional children into thier family. I will keep in touch via this board. Are you related to this Lunsford family or just a genealogy angel? Carrie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Was it in someone's online family tree? The reason I am asking is the following source info. When William Lunsford married Martha Morris in Wayne Co, VA (WV) on 2 Nov 1855 he gave the names of his parents as Wm and L Lunsford. When William's brother, Andrew Lunsford married Ellenor Haws in Wayne Co, WV on 24 Jan 1859 he ALSO gave his parents names as Wm & L Lunsford. Neither son listed their mother as M or Martha......As they themselves gave this info, I have to give it weight. SO that is why I am still trying to verify the mother of William & Andrew Lunsford. The ONLY document I am aware of that lists Martha Day as the mother of William Lunsford is his own death certificate, and that information was filled in by his daughter, Alice Lunsford Cleary. As she was 2 generations removed from the mother of her dad, William, I question the accuracy of the info against the L that was stated by both sons, William & Andrew in their marriage licenses. Is it possible that L died and William Sr remarried to a Martha Day???? That would be one explanation. Or did Martha Day have a given or middle name that began with a L? Back to the actual name of Lucinda, on the marriage record of Andrew Lunsford he had given the names as Wm & L Lunsford and SOMEONE had written into the margin of that record the name Lucinda....is it valid, I have no idea. But the L as mother of William and Andrew, as given personally by them, is still the most credible record thus far as to the name of their mother. It is all so confusing.....I am now ging to go through ALL census records for all states for 1850 and see if I can find a William and Andrew (brothers) that fit the correct timeline of their births. Maybe they were not living in OH in 1850?? Let me know if you found the info for Martha Day being the mother in a family tree or in a record somewhere.....records are what I am looking for. I have NOT ever been able to locate the marriage record for William Sr and Martha Day anywhere. Also the 1816 birth for WIlliam Sr is supposition there are no records, as yet, that support that info. If I am able to find an 1850 census with the brothers, William and Andrew, with their father William Sr the age of William Sr will at least give us a guide to when he may have been born. THANK YOU so much for all the time you took in researching with your response, are you descended from this Lunsford family? The only Lucinda Lunsford that I found was born 1858 and died 1926. She was married to Rueben Lunsford. Her maiden name was Haskins. I obtained this information from the following site: http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch In 1900 census it shows William and Martha(Morris) as having been married 44 years and having 15 children, 10 still living. The only William Lunsford that I can find born in 1816 I cannot find that he had a son named William. His wife is listed as Nancy (Massie). In 1850 when William (Jr) should have still been at home he isn't listed with this family. I tried to check to see if he might be living close by but couldn't locate him under William. William born 1816 is shown in 1860 census as follows: (living in Aid township, Lawrence County, OHIO) William 44, Nancy 43, John 23, Pleasant 21, Levi 19, Samantha 17, Lewis F (listed as Franklin in 1850 census)15, Ellen 13, Basil 10, Martha8, Jackson 6, Mary Susan 4 and Rachel 1. In 1860 census William (Jr) and Martha are living in Burlington, Fayette Township, Lawrence County, Ohio. William 26, Martha 19, Gordon 3 (1880 census has him living in Cabell County WV),Percival 2 and Sarah 2 months. Could not find this family again until 1900 census William Lunsford (born Nov. 1833 OH) 66, Martha (born Nov.1840 WV) Nora (Jan. 1884)16 (daughter) and grandchild Minnie Tonne (born Aug 1887) 12. Now it shows that Minnie was born in Arkansas as was her father but her mother was born in Ohio. Could the family have lived in Arkansas and then returned to OH?? Hope this is of some help to you. Would you mind checking your "Symmes Creek" Book and see if you have any information on the following persons. In Lawrence Co, for a William Lunsford, born abt 1800/1815 he may have been born in OH, VA, or KY, I have no other info for him other than he may have been married to a Lucinda and possibly a 2nd time to a Martha Day. He had 2 sons (by Lucinda) William 1833 OH - 1915 OH and Andrew 1835 OH- 1899 OH) All of the above lived in Lawrence Co, OH during the 1830s through the early 1900s. THe other person if you do not mind checking for would be a Moman/Monan/Moran/Morman family in Gallipolis, Gallia county in the end of the 1700s and the beginning of the 1800s. THey had a daughter JUDAH that married Charles Payton/Peyton of WV in 1818 there in Gallia Co, OH. Charles Peyton was originally from Amherst Co, VA and there were families also in Amherst by the name of Morman & Moran. The marriage license I have for Juda and Charles is so poorly written that you can not read her last name & the chance that it was misspelled anyway is very high as Charles' surname was spelled as Patton instead of Payton/Peyton. I have been unable to ascertain if any of the families in Gallia county had a daughter Judah as she was married BEFORE 1850 when the census records finally began listing the members of the families. ANY info you may find would be helpful, even if it is negative as at least that would lead me AWAY from an incorrect family connection. I know this is a lot to ask as I do lookups for references in Amherst County Books, so I REALLY do appreciate your time and efforts on my behalf. I'm sorry Kate. I talked to my cousin and he said he would check but, I haven't heard from him yet. He lives in South Point and I live in Marion. He has been working a lot of hours so that might be the reason. I called twice and kind of hate to bother him again. I'm sure you won't have a problem. His wife said there is no nontrespassing signs posted. You can talk to the person who lives in the house first and let him know what you need. If he isn't there just do your looking. I'm sure there won't be a problem. They just don't want any vandalism. Have a good trip and let me know what you find. Author: danerott Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.lawrence/3807.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I have a book here entitled, "Symmes Creek" that covers many decades of historical events and stories of the Symmes Valley area including Jackson, Gallia, and Lawrence Counties. There is a photo of a JESSE BANDY in here. I see that is one of the names you're researching. There are some Boggs mentioned here, as well. Samuel Boggs is listed as an early settler of Walnut Township, Gallia Co. Alexander Boggs purchased 1 bell and collar for .50 at the estate sale of John Wiseman on Sept. 25, 1844 in most likely Gallia Co. Where the sale is announced in the book is about Gallia Co. residents, so I am assuming this sale was in Gallia. In 1788 Henry McDaniel married Hanna Bryan. They had 10 children. Their son Jehu, born in 1792 married Elizabeth Boggs. Henry McDaniel was the first settler of Walnut Township. He came from Pittsylvania Co., Va. in 1810 and he was born Nov. 7, 1763 in Pittsylvania Co. This account states that one source of information indicates he was among a ! group of settlers led to Ohio by Daniel Boone. It also states that documented proof exists that he settled one-fourth of a mile up on Camp Creek from the confluence of that stream and Symmes Creek. Henry and Hanna McDaniel also had a daughter named Sara, born 1796, who married Andrew Boggs. Henry McDaniel died Sept. 28, 1838. His wife Hanna died in 1811. They are buried in the old cemetery near the site of the original homestead. In Oct 1853 Andrew Boggs was a witness in a lawsuit on Oct. 17, 1853 regarding Alexander McDaniel not receiving his 3 bushels of corn in Walnut Twp. Sand Fork church members as of January 1850 included Mary Boggs and George Bandy. The church was located in Gallia Co. ---end. April.
